Gifts for Team- I'm the one leaving!

over2021 · 28/01/2022 19:11

Help! What can I get as gifts for my team?

Team of 6 - all female aged between 30-50. Diverse team with three religions, half don't drink.

Budget is £10 pp - I was thinking a little candle or a little pen set but now thinking that seems a bit naff!

I need them by Tuesday evening so ideally something I can go out and buy on the high street!

TIA

Is getting gifts the done thing in your office? I’ve never heard of it in that direction!

A nice notebook maybe?

mum2jakie · 28/01/2022 19:16

I've never anyone give individual gifts when they are the one leaving? Would be more usual to give a shared present - tin of nice biscuits, chocolates or selection of cakes?

over2021 · 28/01/2022 19:19

Definitely feels like something I should do- they are my team in that I'm the manager and have worked there a long time - 15 years! - so do feel like I should get them something!

I wouldn’t get them anything tbh, £10 a head seems really low for a manager for 15 years, I think it would be better to take them for a drink at lunchtime on your final day and then gracefully be the centre of attention yourself for gifts / cards etc

AdriannaP · 28/01/2022 19:22

Yes take them for a lunch.

emmathedilemma · 28/01/2022 19:22

Order a nice lunch in?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 28/01/2022 19:23

Order lunch or an afternoon tea in.

over2021 · 28/01/2022 19:24

I am taking them for lunch- I want some little gifts for the table. I know they've bought me something and I want to detract from that because I will probably cry!

I'm after ideas not critique (I deliberately didn't post in AIBU!) but would consider a bit more than £10 for a good idea!

Team coffee mugs or water bottles?

SilenceOfThePrams · 28/01/2022 19:30

Bamboo eco mug and either tea or coffee bags depending on preference if you know it, or selection of both if you don’t

Reflections2021 · 28/01/2022 19:31

Maybe a nice little photo frame each or a small one that you can put a couple of pictures in, if you have any pictures of you all over the 15 years at fun social events. Could print the photos out on a decent printer. They can then keep the frame for home or at the office, and/or could put different pictures in it. Hard not to like, as it’s a personal sentimental gift that I’m sure they will appreciate.

HairyScaryMonster · 28/01/2022 19:57

If you're in the office I'd do a joint hamper of all the favourite snacks and tea bags to keep them going.

3girlsmama · 28/01/2022 20:30

M&S have nice white & black initial mugs. Those with some nice chocolates in the mug?

I would not thank you for a photo frame, particularly with photos of people from work in it!! It’d be straight in the charity shop bag if it didn’t fit in with my home decor to change the photos in!
SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 28/01/2022 20:38

It’s a nice thought. I would go with scented candles personally. I know not everyone likes them but they’re pretty inoffensive. People can regift or swap if you get a variety. Etc.

yourestandingonmyneck · 28/01/2022 20:39

You sound like a lovely manager.

I would stick to consumables; could vary by person according to their tastes - nice chocolates, fancy jams, good coffee, etc etc.

ANameChangeAgain · 28/01/2022 20:42

Everyone used to do cream cakes from the local bakery at places I have worked, which were always well recieved.

Some nice hampers/sets here?

EarringsandLipstick · 28/01/2022 21:02

I know you said you didn't want the idea critiqued but if you are taking them for lunch, that's truly enough. That plus £60 on gifts is excessive regardless of how lovely you, or they, are.

Think of it - you'll end up spending way more on their gifts, than they will on yours. A lunch for 6 won't be cheap.

I say this as a life-long over-giver, even when I couldn't really afford it. Ultimately, people don't really appreciate the gifts.

katscamel · 29/01/2022 07:37

When I left a job many years ago we went for dinner and by everyone's seat I just had little gift bags with a couple of nice chocolates in. I've also taken cake into the office...who doesn't like cake??!😆

daisychain01 · 29/01/2022 09:20

If you've been a good manager to them, that's the best gift you can ever give.

£10 will be tat they put in the bin, memories of happy times will stay with them a lot longer.

Afternoon tea delivered to the office, or to their homes and share via zoom.

Really think this through. I'd hate this. I would hate to pause work to have afternoon tea on screen.

Check first if people might like this.

A leaving lunch is fine, cake at tea break, also lovely. Anything else, not so much.

fussygalore118 · 29/01/2022 09:38

I did gift bags for my team at Christmas, with their favourite coffee or tea, lovely chocolates or biscuits, nice notebook and pen, small candle, hand cream and lip balm.. ea h one slightly different depending on what I know they like etc... some had a mini gin and tonic etc..
