WFH What do you wear?

I started a new job this week. It's entirely wfh and eve though I was a bit nervous about being in the house all the time I am LOVING it!

My questions is this. I spent lots of time on Teams calls. Should I be dressed (too half 😆) as if I am in the office? No hoodies etc? Do you wear make up etc?

What's the done thing?

Joggers, a jumper, tinted moisturiser and mascara, neat hair

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2022 07:07

I wear joggers and a hoodie, usually a lovely snuggly Borg one at the moment, during the summer I wear shorts and T-shirts. Only exception is if I have a client call with video on where I'll wear a smarter top.

Just have to be careful in the summer not to wear a strapless or thin strapped vest as when on teams it can look like your sat there naked 😂

I never wear make up but didn't when I was in the office either.

whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 28/01/2022 07:07

What are others wearing?
I work in a formal environment. I hate it when people roll up in a hoody just because they are wfh and everyone else is in collar and tie.

thebigpurpleone · 28/01/2022 07:10

I have a lot of calls but want to be comfy so wear high waist leggings and a shirt, I have these from zara in lots of colours. I wear make up too. I can't get into work mode if I'm wearing my weekend comfies. https://www.zara.com/uk/en/poplin-shirt-p02298225.html?v1=153640110&gclid=Cj0KCQiAosmPBhCPARIsAHOen-MTzczYk3lcwNAV8uBT0p9TDd0wy6Zga4m8oZBRs6RkPkN3kBdHNUaAhD6EALww_wcB

Thanks all. There seems to be a bit of a mix with us. I noticed that one if the contractors was in a hoodie but nobody else from within the company. I've avoided them so far.

Some people have a full face of make up and other not so much. I think I'll just go straight down the middle and not wear a hoodie style thing and just make sure my hair is acceptable.

I have a bunch of external client calls next week so I think I'll make a bit more of an effort for those.

I think it depends on your works dress code however all my colleague just wear a non-descript top or jumper and just make sure we all look presentable with tidy hair and makeup if that’s what your comfortable wearing. If I have no calls I’m usually in a loungsuit.

AperolWhore · 28/01/2022 07:12

I always wear jeans and a shirt and light makeup. I wave my hair once a week on a Sunday and with dry shampoo I can make that last until Thursday.

I think you should still look smart and presentable even WFH. I do have fluffy thermal socks on I’ll put a plain jumper over the shirt if I’m cold.

Jennifer2r · 28/01/2022 07:14

I used to wear a hoodie and jeans to the office so I now wear hoodie and leggings at home. I always make sure I'm clean and presentable, hair brushed etc.

Scarby9 · 28/01/2022 07:15

Work style tops for Zoom with warm leggings, socks and furry boot slippers out of sight, as well as a hot water bottle on my knees.
If I have to leave my station during a video call, I have mastered the art of sliding out sideways to retain the illusion of professional dress.
Bug jumper or hoodie between calls.

Scarby9 · 28/01/2022 07:16

Big jumper. Though I quite fancy a bug jumper...

ChimChimeny · 28/01/2022 07:24

I wear a smart sweatshirt or jumper because it's cold! If I wore my office wear I'd be freezing. I only wear make up to the office so don't at home, hair always up regardless of where I am

The people WFH in my meetings tend to be casually dressed with the odd hoody.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2022 07:26

I like a jumper dress. Comfy but vaguely smart. I like to change when I’m done so mentally work has ended!

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 28/01/2022 07:40

Winter - cashmere roll neck + black jeggings, thick socks, Uniqlo heat tech top underneath, and a heated throw on my lap. A knitted hoodie for casual Fridays.

Summer - shirt dress, or shorts and a cotton top or smart T-shirt.

I only wfh occasionally but quite a casual dressed industry so tend to wear jumpers or smart t-shirts (which is what I would wear when in). Minimal make up if in but often don't bother if wfh as not sure you can really tell in video calls (at least not at level I wear) so can't be arsed.

Had a wider company meeting recently and was a bit surprised to see two seniors taking the meeting wearing hoodies (both would be in shirts on site) but thought it was a nice way of showing expectations of wfh wear. We don't tend to be customer facing though

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 28/01/2022 07:48

I stick with comfortable loungewear but keep a smart top to hand for any zoom meetings. Neat hair and makeup if I have a meeting scheduled but don't bother if it's just an admin day.

Crinkle77 · 28/01/2022 08:16

For me it depends who the meeting is with. If it's colleagues in my department I'll just wear casual clothes. If I'm in a conference or meeting with other departments or students then I'll be smart on the top half at least.

Crayzeefrog · 28/01/2022 08:22

I wear something like skinny jeans and an oversized jumper and have my hair and makeup done. I don’t really wear hoodies ever so that’s not an issue. I do look ‘put together’ but not like I’m ridiculously dressed up for being at home all day. I think I’d do the same even if I wasn’t working as I need to do the school run

stuntbubbles · 28/01/2022 08:24

I dress entirely for warmth unless I’ve got a new client meeting, in which case I’ll wear a smart jumper and my glasses (covers the eye bags and makes me look pulled together). Old clients get scruffy me Grin

GaiusHelenMohiam · 28/01/2022 08:28

I don’t wfh but my Dh and my sister both do.

Him: software engineer, trackies and hoody. Rarely does f2f teams, they usually have cameras off.

Her: HR/payroll. Office wear, hair done, makeup. Spends most of her day on F2F teams/zoom.

I think it depends on the sector (with maybe a dollop of sexist expectations? I’ll ask her if the men are in shirt and tie).

Eileen101 · 28/01/2022 08:34

Jeans, t shirt, hoodie or jumper. Tidy hair, no makeup. But I wouldn't be wearing makeup in the office anyway.

I dress smartly when the occasion warrants it - client visits (rare) or court.

I'm not a person who is generally dressed perfectly but even the departmental partners appear on teams in a hoody and hair like they've just rolled out of bed so 🤷🏼‍♀️

If I was going in the office, I'd put on a dress, cardigan, tights and flat shoes. Unless it was freezing out, or Friday.

Eileen101 · 28/01/2022 08:36

Oh and we're generally cameras off on teams anyway.
Have only had camera on for my return to work after mat leave several months ago, then for an appraisal.

Marmite27 · 28/01/2022 08:38

I usually wear pjs and a massive fleece. But I start at 4am.

We were a casual office before though, and I never went in wearing anything more than jeans/trainers/fleece.

I have been into the office numerous times in my pjs too, when a server hasn’t been playing ball.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 28/01/2022 08:41

I work for an environmental 9rg, so we have some people turning g up in fleeces with literal mud on their face. Their office workers but live on smallholdings or own horses or something, then we have a few more strategic politico types who shirt-and-tie it. It's a bonkers mix that makes me laugh, but means I can mix up my own garb depending on mood and energy levels
