Dsd has been induced! First grandchild for all grandparents (step-parents are privileged to have been included as grandparents) and we're all so excited!
Scary though isn't it? You know your baby is going to go through so much pain and there's nothing you can do to help her. The next 24-48 hours are going to go sooooo slowly! Just wanted to share!

Very exciting! Hope all goes well Flowers

mibbelucieachwell · 27/01/2022 23:04

How exciting.

I'm not a Gran yet but I really really hope to be in a few years.

After my mum died I read a diary of significant events in her life that she had written. I had known she was thrilled to be a granny but I hadn't realised quite how excited she was.

I hope it all goes well for your SD.

DoucheCanoe · 27/01/2022 23:05

Exciting times for you all!!

Hope your DSD has an easy (well, as easy as expelling a human from your body can be!) time of it and is snuggled up with her baby girl soon enough.

Have you chosen your Grandparent name yet? Grin

How lovely. I hope all goes well.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 27/01/2022 23:08

How exciting!

My Grandmother gets beside herself with worry and excitement in equal amounts whenever a new Great Grandchild is born, my Dad said she was the same as with us Grandchildren Grin It’s an absolute pleasure and privilege to see her with my children.

SamMiguel · 27/01/2022 23:12

Thank you! Feels funny. I don't want to overstep (and I won't) but she feels like mine (and her dad's and her mum's and her stepdad's) and her dm is fabulous and absolutely embraces and encourages our close relationship. I just have to be careful to take all cues from her in this next stage. I believe I've been the best stepmum I can be and I don't want to mess up the grand parenting part!

I'm going to be Grandma, after my closest grandparent. Dh has, after much debate, decided on Grandpa.
I didn't think I'd feel so emotional but it is AF time so that may account for the random (happy) blubbing! And baby isn't even here yet! Haha

My Grandmother is one of those strange MILs that my Dad and Uncles eExDWs still visit weekly and adore her Grin She says this is because she’s never given unsolicited advice about her Grandchildren. Never passes comment on how they parent unless it’s a positive comment, does as she’s asked when she’s babysitting and takes food to the new mothers every week.

Which is something she continued when I started having children (I’ve got 3) and not once has she made a dickhead comment - she asks a lot of questions as it’s been 60 years since she had a baby and finds all the new equipment fascinating. She especially loved the fancy cloth nappies I used as that reminded her of raising her own babies and how simple they are compared to back then.

So that’s my random info dump (ADHD meds wore off hours ago Grin)

My other Gran… I’ve muttered “fuck off” under my breath so many times since I became a parent because she’s a gobshite who criticises every single thing we (as in, me and my 6 cousins who have so far had children) do.

Ikeatears · 27/01/2022 23:27

@BitcherOfBlakiven haha yep! I am with you on grandmother number one! I will aspire to be the sort of grandparent who is there when needed but never overbearing. I've told dsd that the best piece of advice I can give her is to to listen to advice but to ultimately, trust her instincts. She is a good person and will be a fabulous mum. She can't do better than her best.
My mil always knew I was happy to receive advice but that she mustn't be offended if I didn't take it. It has worked well for us.
Parenting advice changes and we will learn new things through our dsd and sil and dgd and we will always respect their choices.
I hope we'll just be there with love and support and as little or as much involvement as they want us to have.

FelicityBeedle · 27/01/2022 23:35

I remember being a child and being very proud of having 7 grandparents thanks to remarriages. Enjoy your gorgeous new granddaughter and I hope DSD has an easy time of it

SamMiguel · 27/01/2022 23:41

@FelicityBeedle thank you, that's lovely. I also had grandparents through remarriage and they were fabulous. I never ever felt less than my cousins who were their birth grandchildren. Families really are all different shapes and sizes.

Goodness - how exciting!

We are just on our way to see our new(est) grandchild for only the second time in her life - we live abroad so can't just pop round.

Enjoy the cuddles!!

girlmom21 · 28/01/2022 08:42

Oh OP how exciting!
My SM is the best nanny we could ask for for our girls and when I was growing up her parents were always wonderful to me too.

You sound lovely. I'm sure you'll all be ok!

FlamingoDust · 28/01/2022 11:01

Congratulations! Very exciting for you all!

SamMiguel · 28/01/2022 16:01

BookFiend4Life · 28/01/2022 16:12

Aww love this OP! Make sure to ask her how she's doing when you see/talk to her (I'm sure you will, but it's easy to forget when there's a sparkly new baby). Some of my happiest moments from my daughter's infancy are memories of her grandparents interacting with her. There are a few lovely things (just small things) that they said that I'll remember all my life. What a precious time! If you want to be extra thoughtful you could pick a soft outfit to wear when you first meet her and wash it with baby detergent and just have it ready to go. My mom and dad did that and I thought it was really thoughtful. Congratulations!! Also my dad made me a loaf of bread haha and my in laws made us some lovely muffins. Maybe you could bake something too!

SamMiguel · 29/01/2022 11:58

She's here! Born this morning. Everything went well, mum and baby are fine. Baby is beautiful and we're excited to meet her ❤️

Congratulations and welcome to the Grandma club ( I'm a Nana though !). It really is such a precious gift. I love my times with ours - she's so funny.
You sound lovely and I'm sure you'll be a terrific Grandma. Congratulations to Grandpa, too. ❤

DoucheCanoe · 29/01/2022 13:44

Congratulations Grandma and all the other Miguel's 💐
