Why is marital status important?

I'm having a review of my finances, pensions etc. On a form to be completed prior to my appointment with a FA they ask for my marital status.

I may be missing something here, but my finances (in this respect) are completely separate to my husband's. It has always been like this as it works better for us.

Is there a reason for them to ask this at the arranging the appointment stage, or is it just old fashioned sexism?

It is not sexism, it impacts, especially, amount of income needed now and in the future, pensions and life assurance.

If one of you dies, how does that impact the other? Is one of you closer to LTA than the other?

DH and I always kept our finances separate but as we near retirement and since getting FA, I am having to wane on that because I realised we would be wealthier as a couple if we worked together. We still don’t have any joint accounts though!
