To be absolutely clear at the outset, I have not and will not say any of this to DS, all I'm doing is sympathising with his disappointment and suggesting a few things he could do this weekend to distract himself.
DS1's 18yo GF is away on a course for work for two months. Holiday Park accommodation provided, they all have their own cabins and can have guests, with permission. It's a six hour drive for DS to go but he's been very keen. She's been gone three weeks and he's been very sad.
They had discussed him visiting this weekend and he'd arranged his shifts to enable him to drive up on Friday. She just needed permission for him to stay, which she asked for on Friday and has just had a response to say too many guests on site already this weekend so due to security concerns he can't go.
He's been very brave, but he's devastated....and I'm not sure it rings true.
The first few days she was away they were on the phone constantly even during the night, but now she's often too busy with her course mates to talk in the evenings and the night time calls seem to have stopped (which is a good thing!). For her it's great and I'm glad she's enjoying it, but I'm bracing myself at this end....
