Solar power inverter

Silly question and an over anxious one !

My solar inverter is plugged into an extension lead (it was like this when I moved in!). I've just tried to plug something else into the extension lead and it didn't work so I think it may be dud. Can I just unplug the inverter and plug it into a main socket (I think it will reach), when I looked online there's all sorts of technical stuff about the process . Should I switch it off at the fuse box first ? It's just a standard plug ! Does the inverter need some intervention to restart? (there's a solar man I've used previously I can get round )

Obviously I can watch the numbers on the meter but not sure they'll change in this weather .

Not a big deal now but I would like it working in the summer
