The Book of Mormon

I’m trying to work out if my parents would like The Book of Mormon.

I’ve never seen it and I just can’t work out if they’ll like the humour.

Did anyone see it and NOT enjoy it?

Its very crude and pretty offensive if you are easily offended
I enjoyed it but didnt love it

TheVanguardSix · 25/01/2022 22:02

I think if your parents like songs that contain the lyrics, “I’ve got maggots on my scrotum!” they will love it. It’s written by the South Park guys.

BigSigh2021 · 25/01/2022 22:03

I found it very funny, but there is a line something like "Fuck you God in the mouth, arse and cunt"!

People walked out when I first saw it.

I’m going for the 4th time next month (to be fair the 3rd time was because Ds was invited to sit in the pit during a show )

Thanks, I’ll give it a swerve!

Have a listen to the soundtrack and see what you think :-) I really enjoyed it, proper laugh-out-loud moments, but there is some very crude humour (and lots of swearing - C-bombs, the lot!) so if you think that might offend them, better to steer clear. Are they religious? There's a song that's basically saying 'F you, God', which might offend more than Mormons... you know your parents best, though! The tunes are super-catchy...

FitAt50 · 25/01/2022 22:11

I'm an ex-mormon and I loved it. It is very very rude and has lots of really bad language and a song about "fucking a baby" and jokes about aids, jesus being taken from behind etc. If are religious or don't like bad language, I would avoid.

TheDoctorDances · 25/01/2022 22:12

BOM is the quite possibly funniest play I’ve ever seen, but I’m not easily offended. However, I wouldn’t take my mother.

Some of the songs are on Youtube, maybe give them a listen and see what you think?

Honeyroar · 25/01/2022 22:15

I’m not a fan of bad language generally, but Book of Mormon was just so hysterical and the swearing was just so deliberately OTT that it “wasn’t real”! I think it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Made Monty Python feel like Playschool!

Hippophile · 25/01/2022 22:16

It was ok, I wouldn’t pay to see it again, but I’m not a fan of musicals. Went with someone who’d been 5 times and knew all the words to the songs, then went on a car journey with him and he played the soundtrack for 2 hours 🤦🏻‍♀️

VERY overrated imo

CalIie · 25/01/2022 22:25

I’ve seen it twice. I loved it, as did my father when he came with me. If they or you are easily offended give it a miss but otherwise it’s pretty fun.

buckeejit · 26/01/2022 08:50

Enjoyed it but didn't love it. Was funny but it crossed a line for me

LizziesTwin · 26/01/2022 08:53

Depends how old your parents are - 50s yes. It’s very funny.
