Spotify - family account - anyone use this?

I’m being driven round the bend. I have a Spotify account which I make very good use of - music during the day during work, at the gym, then also listen to podcasts etc if I’m gardening or walking.

DH and DD wanted to have Spotify too, so I set up a family account and I am paying more for this than my single use account, obviously.

However every single time DD or DH switch their music on their device, it stops mine playing.

My playlists are also being overtaken by their —crappy— playlists.

These are all separate devices (mostly phone). How do I separate them out? Does anyone know? There is absolutely nothing intuitive on the settings. They were added to my family account via the instructions given (email invitation).

I can't help with sorting it I'm afraid, but I have a family account band it's used by 4 of us without any problems. All have separate playlists, and listen independently. Hope you can fix it, because it can work really well!

They should have their own log ins which are connected to your family account, but completely separate to your own profile. That way everyone has their own playlists and can listen simultaneously. It sounds like you are all using the same profile?

My DH has an account with me and had to create his own log-in using a link. We can't see each other's accounts or playlists.

You're all using the same login.

Create separate logins for each person on the account. I share with DB and never had as issue. Just as well as he loves cheesy pop and I'm a rocker 🤣

We've got 5 (6? Whatever the max is) on our Spotify family. If you've all got separate log ins then you should all be able to listen separately.

The only time we've had a problem is when we're playing through Alexa which was something to do with which account she was logged into.

Make them their own account and then you send a link which you can find in your settings which connects them together.

Spinnier · 25/01/2022 08:54

yes we all have separate log ins. I did get it wrong first time round. I think you have to create their log ins separately on their own phones, and then bring them into your family account, but I can't honestly remember.

My Spotify stops playing when I'm in my car. I assume it's some sort of Bluetooth setting.

ExtremelyDetermined · 25/01/2022 08:55

No problems here either, our only problem is connecting them to the Sonos system as it is logged into DH's account.

As other posters have said, you’ve not completed the family account process. You have to log in (maybe on desktop) and send email invites to the other family members on their email and they create an account. These are sub accounts to your main one

Mykittensmittens · 25/01/2022 12:34

Thanks all. I definitely got them into Spotify by sending them a link initially, but I’ll log in on the laptop and try again now. Fingers crossed!

Right - I’m still confused. This is how the account is set up with me, my DD, DS and DD showing as ‘plan members’ - isn’t this separate already then?

Each of those members should be an entirely different and new spotify. For instance, I could send you a link which would add your Spotify to my family account but your Spotify stays the same. Set up a new Spotify for each person of you haven't already.
Also, double check each device is signed in to the correct account. My Dcs used my Spotify before I set up their own, if yours did too there's a chance they're still logged into the wrong one.

Thanks - I’ve done it for DD now so I’ll have a go at the other two when they’re free.

I am utterly relieved not to have to listen to their choices any more - thank you!!!!
