DH got me a massage voucher for Christmas. Booked it for today after work.

I'm sure it's very very common for people to fall asleep during massages. What I'm not sure is common is people then waking themselves up what their own snoring !!!!

I was snoring so loud I woke myself up!!! I then fell asleep again I just couldn't stay awake.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's embarrassed themselves at a beauty appointment 🤦🏽

I’ve fallen asleep mid spin class… more than once! Jerked myself awake as I started slipping off the seat Blush

DH is a police officer and has fallen asleep in a police car on a blue light run. He wasn't driving. He does like his sleep.

Anyone remember the Emma Thompson moment in Bridget Jones's Baby where she mentions gow uncomfortable it is to hold in a trump during pregnancy yoga. I have found pilates similar and is why I gave up classes.

I've snores myself awake while having my eyelashes done. I suspect a massage would send me into a coma

Rowgtfc72 · 24/01/2022 22:38

I've fallen asleep a few times while giving blood. Been poked awake by concerned nurses who'd thought I'd passed out.

FatPatsCat · 24/01/2022 22:50

I fanny farted repeatedly in a yoga class. Never returned....

NellieWellietheEllie · 24/01/2022 22:55

I don't like massage as find it really awkward. But I was bought one by a friend and resolved to give it a go. Masseuse was very nice and said she could tell how tense I was and to just relax etc. However, I ended up gripping the table leg of the massage table and kind of using it as a stress ball throughout. I thought it was kind of padded which is why it felt soft. No. Turns out it was her leg and she hadn't said anything. I only realised when I went to get up.

Bloodybridget · 24/01/2022 22:56

I dozed through most of my haircut today. I must have been conscious enough to stay upright, as I wasn't aware of him having to shove me back into position.

Bloodybridget · 24/01/2022 22:57

@NellieWellietheEllie that's hilarious!

@User2638483- you weren’t having a body wrap were you? I once wrapped a lady who’d whipped her knickers off. I pretended I hadn’t noticed… until I couldn’t anymore. In my defence, I was quite young (so was the lady).

Glorieta · 24/01/2022 23:07

Had a bit of a cold and felt a sneeze coming on while getting my nails done.
Couldn't grab a tissue obviously so sneezed into my shoulder - looked down to a see a huge blob of spit/snot/god knows what - glistening on my purple jumper.

I was mortified and the young trainee looked at me like I was some kind of uncivilised savage! Never went back Blush

Hairyfriend · 24/01/2022 23:18

I'm clearly going against the grain here and have never fallen asleep during a massage or any beauty treatment. I'd be mortified and think I clearly had a sleep disorder or sleep deprivation!

My DH (with sleep apnoea) can fall asleep mid sentence, sitting on the loo and whilst holding a mug of tea, so I can believe it happens, but surely not the vast majority of clients do this???

Isthisprivate · 24/01/2022 23:19

I once fell asleep in the dentist having root canal treatment

Me too! I have a bad habit of holding my breath in my sleep (all fine, checked by the doctor) they thought I was having a reaction to the local anaesthetic and I came round to things frantically being removed from my mouth, I’m not sure what they were planning next, apparently they had nudged me and said my name a few times first.

Isthisprivate · 24/01/2022 23:23

I’ve done this too!! I’ve found my people!
I was fine initially during the class but decided to nip out for a wee and for some reason thought it would be less disruptive if I did some strange jog, they must have all thought I was running off to shit myself. I wouldn’t have gone back in if it wasn’t for my car keys being in there. I would have happily sacrificed my shoes and yoga mat.

Booboobibles · 24/01/2022 23:29

I’m a very part time therapist. Hardly any massage clients fall asleep but a lot of them become very emotional when I massage their arms.

More or less all of my reflexology clients fall asleep.

Grandville · 24/01/2022 23:30

I have managed to fall asleep during quite a painful procedure on my face. The therapist was Confused as usually people use a local anaesthetic and still struggle with 10 mins. I can go 30 mins with no pain relief and nod off.

I do wake up when she does my upper lip though Shock

Micro needling by any chance? First time I was literally crying real tears with the pain and the therapist had to stop after 10 minutes. Second time (I was feeling brave) I put some numbing cream on before I went in, and tried out some breathing exercises I'd learned in pregnancy to help manage the pain of labour. I managed to nod off (or deprive myself of oxygen, not sure which). Was definitely more pleasant second time round.
QueenoftheFarts · 25/01/2022 18:03

I always fall asleep. Pretty sure I once farted and sneezed simultaneously while waking up from one of my massage snoozes once as well..... you are not alone

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 25/01/2022 18:10

i had a meeting with a male physio last week. i put on a really old bra under my t shirt. When looking at my programme he decided to do some acupuncture.

Laurie000 · 25/01/2022 18:32

I fell asleep during root canal treatment once (I had a B12 deficiency but it was before we knew). I’m not sure if the dentist noticed as I tend to close my eyes during dental procedures anyway.

Lemonweightloss · 25/01/2022 18:46

@StarsAreWishes, that is so funny. It's tickled me so much, I'm crying.
I think it's the image of everyone's gone home and you're there, all alone, snoring away, the cleaners maybe mopping up around you. 🤣
Great thread @mayaknew : you're surely feeling better now !

Bignanny30 · 25/01/2022 18:57

When I first did it I apologised to the therapist who said don’t worry really everyone does it. It’s also common to pass wind too so think yourself lucky you didn’t do that 😱

Lindylou2703 · 25/01/2022 19:06

I woke up to the sound of dripping during a massage.. Turns out I'd fallen asleep and started dribbling and my dribble was dripping in the bowl of incense oils under the massage table..

Bloody good massage though.
