Embarrassing moment at the beauty therapist. I'm not lone in embarrassing myself am I?!

DH got me a massage voucher for Christmas. Booked it for today after work.

I'm sure it's very very common for people to fall asleep during massages. What I'm not sure is common is people then waking themselves up what their own snoring !!!!

I was snoring so loud I woke myself up!!! I then fell asleep again I just couldn't stay awake.

Tell me I'm not the only one who's embarrassed themselves at a beauty appointment 🤦🏽

Oh I've fallen asleep in a meditation session snoring my head off Blush

TheNestedIf · 24/01/2022 19:53

The other things I've had to apologise for...

You know that thing that happens when a Doctor taps you below the knee, and it kicks out involuntarily... well, one masseur found a pressure point in my calf and my leg straightened all on its own. I nearly hoofed the poor woman.

Also, I have a very sensitive and ticklish neck, and if that reflex gets triggered, my neck and head close around the masseur's fingers like a Venus Fly Trap. There is then a period where I alternately giggle and apologise abjectly whilst trying to release them.

@TheLieInTheBitchNTheFloordrobe thank you for that much needed laugh. Have done similar. Also why the immediate need to fart the minute the therapist starts? At least falling asleep relaxes the clenched arse cheeks.

Thank God I’m not the only one who’s whipped their pants off without being asked to.

I’d never had any sort of treatment before and dp booked us both in for separate multi treatment packages when we were having a weekend away, mine started with a floating bath thing and then went to a steam and then full body scrub and then massage and facial. My paper pants were wet and cold after the bath so I threw them away but couldn’t find any others to put on. Had the steam alone in my towel and then was asked to take the towel off and get on the table for the scrub. Even without my glasses on I could see she was horrified, she wasn’t very polite about it and it ruined the rest of the treatments because I couldn’t really relax after that. Blush

Oh god similar happened to me. High end massage in Bangkok at a fancy hotel. Lovely masseuse. I was exhausted after a long day of travel. Fell asleep. Woke up to her massaging me and lost all sense of where and who I was...shouted out and sort of jerked up off the table. She screamed, stumbled backwards and fell over in shock. Poor girl. Totally ruined the mood!

StarsAreWishes · 24/01/2022 20:05

I fell asleep during the relaxation at the end of my yoga class, and the bastards just left me there.

Ididanamechange · 24/01/2022 20:08

I had a hot stone massage once and kept laughing becuase it was really ticklish. I think that annoyed the therapist more than if I'd fallen asleep

userxx · 24/01/2022 20:08

@ShirleyPhallus

I’ve done worse… had a massage, fallen asleep, farted and woke myself up. Very, very awkward for all involved.

Brilliant!

@Candean

I'm a beauty therapist and once had a guy in for a facial. He fell asleep pretty much straight away, and then woke up suddenly mid treatment, nearly head butted me as he sat bolt upright shouting ' I'm late for work, I'm late for work!' Poor guy was very apologetic, but I can imagine he was quite stressed out and needed the break. Happens all the time folk falling asleep. I've had snorers, farters, people falling asleep while doing their brows - always taken as a compliment 😂
I just had to ask DH if he'd had a sneaky facial, that's the exact thing he would do.

I'm really good friends with my beauty therapist now (started out as therapists moved to friends)

Before we became friends, and I think this hastened it, I'd cried on her, sneezed on her, snored on her and nearly threw up too. Luckily avoided her and hit her bin instead.

@TheLieInTheBitchNTheFloordrobe

Don’t worry, just got to laugh about it!

I lay down too far down the bed, so my face wasn’t aligned with the face hole.

Spent the next 30 minutes trying to kid myself I was relaxed and enjoying myself whilst simultaneously was laser focussed on trying to suck life sustaining air through the small gap between my top lip and the faux leather mattress 😂 I have no idea why I didn’t just move!

Also was paranoid about dribbling through the hole onto the floor, and my mind was racing about how visible my drool pool would be in a candlelit room anyway. I mean wtf.

I have dribbled through the hole on to her foot, she never said a word, just moved out of target range.
OneMoreForExtra · 24/01/2022 20:38

These are hysterical. I very often fall asleep and buy into the whole 'it's a complement' thing. Which didn't work well the time the face hole was filled in with the bung thing used to turn it into a medxeithout a hole. For some reason I said nothing, and spent an expensive hour trying to ridge up the surrounding roll of towel with my cheek while trying not to crush my nose against the non-hole, without moving a single other muscle.

Spudlet · 24/01/2022 20:44

I am a massage therapist - it’s absolutely a good thing if you nod off. Someone told me they had done so the other day and I was delighted Smile

@OneMoreForExtra Howling at you not saying something / suddenly feeling paranoid about forgetting to take the plug thing out and a client just not mentioning it GrinGrin

Namechangeforthis88 · 24/01/2022 20:47

@QuelleSuprise I came quite close while getting a filling, which is remarkable, as I was terrified when I went in. Dentist has warned me that it's quite deep and might need root canal in future. I was scared, but my goal is that I'll just nod off, you're my role model.

squashyhat · 24/01/2022 20:51

@MaybeHeIsMyCat

I fell asleep having an MRI scan. The repetitive noises I'm blaming it on. I think I was snoring too
The most scary, noisy, claustrophobic experience know to womankind and you nod off. Respect! Grin
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 24/01/2022 20:57

I’ve fallen asleep during an MRI too. Apparently it’s not uncommon- it’s like white noise and if it works for you it’s very relaxing.

Itstheprinciple · 24/01/2022 21:00

My DH dozed off having a tattoo.

MsFogi · 24/01/2022 21:01

I second falling asleep in MRIs - the pillows are so comfy Grin

OneMoreForExtra · 24/01/2022 21:20

@Spudlet my nose crushing has saved you/a future client from a similar fate it'll all have been worthwhile! Grin

georgarina · 24/01/2022 21:23

I've fallen asleep while getting my eyelashes done and it's really freaky, because when I woke up my eyes were taped shut!

Don't worry, it's embarrassing for you but she won't give it a second thought. Like they say no one remembers other people's embarrassing moments x

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 24/01/2022 21:39

Another one who fell asleep in the MRI! The most relaxing experience ever. They apologised as it had taken longer as they’d done more images, I asked if by way of an apology I could just have 15 minutes more …

100problems · 24/01/2022 21:51

@georgarina I bet that's absolutely not true and it all comes out at the Salon after works drinks!

ShinyPikachu · 24/01/2022 21:55

@Itstheprinciple

My DH dozed off having a tattoo.
I've done this too. I find the noise of the machine is like white noise for me and I don't find them painful so I drifted off during a larger one on my leg when I was lying down.

I've also fallen asleep during massages regularly. The worst was a hydrotherm when I was facing up the way and I woke myself up with a snore. I think I'd been drooling then too and you can't even hide it like when you're facing down.

ShinyPikachu · 24/01/2022 21:57

I've also fallen asleep while having my hair washed at the hairdresser.

I wish I could fall asleep in my bed as easily as I do during treatments. 😆

I fell asleep sitting in the room whilst my yd had an mri. It's so loud but I guess it's a bit heartbeat like and I drifted off! I guess if I snored no one would have heard it Grin
mayaknew · 24/01/2022 22:10

Oh I could never fall asleep getting my eyelashes done my eyelash girls bed is so uncomfy! I end up with a sore back! She tells me it happens all the time though! She calls it a lash nap 😂😂

I'm so glad I'm not the only massage snorer 😂😂😂
