I just can't get motivated

I don't know what it is, nothing has happened to make me feel like this (that I'm aware of at least) but I just can't get going.

I have a job I've wanted for ages, the company is great, but I just can't find my mojo to get stuff done.
It's the same with non-work, there is so much I want to do, but just can't seem to get started. Whether is trying a new recipe, going out and about, exercise, reading, some house projects- and I don't know why!

I've got a 14month DS and work full time, so I know I need to lower my expectations in general but surely I should be able to get at least one-two things done and have the motivation to do them!

What gets you motivated? How do you find the enthusiasm or want to do things?

Sunshine! Sunshine lick starts my ass into getting stuff done even if its 4 degrees but sunny. I'm all for getting stuff done. Dull grey cloud just makes me want to do nothing

DH and I were just moaning about the grim darkness of the day over lunch. Both of us feeling completely adrift and WFH doesn't help, you don't even have the commute to wake you up! I can even hear him yawning in the other room.

Let's both get up, make a drink, and then sit down and do a 15 min burst of activity. Just 15 mins on your most important task. I'll try and take my own advice too!

*kick starts not lick starts!

I'm definitely the same with sunshine - it totally revitalises me!

That's an excellent idea! Get up and do something for 15 minutes before your brain kicks in to process it.

Sometimes I wonder where this motivation and enthusiasm disappeared - I didn't have this problem back in the day

I wonder if it's also screen time - just get sucked in cos it's easy instead of taking the effort to do things I want and enjoy.

For me, motivation is bullshit. It's all about discipline. I remove the option of choosing whether to do something and simply decide I'm doing it.

But I think I'm weird!

Absolutely agree that discipline is a big part of it- especially for a good routine and habits! I just don't understand when it comes to things I enjoy (like reading or house projects or similar) I can't get the discipline to do them/start them - they're not chores - they're genuinely enjoyable!
