We are having toad in the hole for dinner. I ask my husband what veg he would like with it. He replied it doesnt need veg it's a meal on its own.

Is it!?

I am going to have to make some mash and peas/broccoli it's going to look like half a meal isn't it! Confused

Needs mash, veg and gravy.

Sn0tnose · 23/01/2022 12:51

I’m with your DH, it can be a meal by itself, although it absolutely does need onion gravy.

I also quite like it with mashed or roast potatoes if I’m having a smaller portion, although I will do veg with it then.

Roast potatoes. Always! any excuse as I love them and it goes with the Yorkshire

Definitely a meal on its own. Serve with bakes beans if you want.

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 23/01/2022 13:44

I would never just serve it on it’s own, always with a couple of veg and colcannon. Who cares whether you need another carb, you deserve another Wink.

Some of the recipes and ideas on here sound amazing! I'm having veg with mine and definitely going to try the one with Mediterranean vegetables and feta soon too!

sashh · 24/01/2022 12:36

My mum used to do a similar thing but with lamb chops.

I'm alternating between laughing heartily and shaking my head in disbelief at all the people on this thread that are horrified at the idea of double carbing. Life is surely just a hollow shell without double carbs every now and again!

Cigfree · 24/01/2022 12:44

Cauliflower cheese or mashed carrot & swede.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/01/2022 12:48

Baked beans here Grin.

ThreeRingCircus · 24/01/2022 13:17

I love carbs but don't think toad in the hole needs potatoes. That may be because I have a massive portion of it though! We always serve ours with peas and onion gravy. In fact you're making me want some right now!

Tulipomania · 25/01/2022 09:01

Cauliflower cheese doesn't go either - adding double dairy to the list of culinary sins!

Cigfree · 25/01/2022 13:05

If people like it, it ‘goes’.

itssquidstella · 25/01/2022 13:26

Definitely no potatoes (I have a huge amount of Yorkshire pudding!), but it needs veg otherwise it's a very beige meal.
