Have you booked a holiday abroad for May half term?

I'm dithering about booking a holiday abroad. Have already had a holiday refunded from last year and have lost money so worried about taking the plunge.

We're two adults two kids one vaccinated one not (primary).

Where are you off to? This used to be so easy!

Not yet, same situation as you & not sure what rules will be for youngest dc

catswhisker1 · 22/01/2022 22:36

Should say both adults and teen vaxxed. Looking at camping or static in Europe.

It seems different for every country but at the minute most require pcr within 72 hours for adults/teens and nothing for under 12s Flights are so expensive though!

I have. We are going to Finland to see DP’s family. Crossing everything

delilahbucket · 22/01/2022 22:44

Not dared yet. We've booked for the Lake District instead for May. Not sure about summer yet. I keep looking.

SilverontheTree · 22/01/2022 22:47

Easter so even sooner! Fingers crossed.

Yes. We’re going camping in Italy. It was originally booked for May 2020 and when I booked this one vaccinated people could enter Italy without a test and DD who is unvaccinated (she’s only 9) needed an LFT. I
have no idea what we’re going to have to do now!

Yes. Have booked Greece. Have told the kids but also told them not to get excited in case it doesn't happen!

catswhisker1 · 22/01/2022 23:01

I'm hoping it will all be back to normal by then...ha famous last words!

We're booked to go to France. Pretty sure we are going to cancel as can't really be bothered with all the worry of whether we will be able to go or not/all the testing, and if we cancel early enough we get a full refund. Meant to be 6 adults and 8 children going.

Minniem2020 · 22/01/2022 23:06

I work in travel and my colleague and I were discussing today how much harder it is now for people to get away on holiday with the entry requirements being such a faff. We were also saying we hope that pretty soon they'll do away with a lot of the rules. Fwiw I haven't booked for May as I'm pregnant but will be booking for the summer. 3 years is too long to go without a holiday!

HappyAsASandboy · 22/01/2022 23:11

I have booked Holland for May half term. At the moment you have to have PCR/LFT within 48 hours (I think) to enter the country and then have to isolate for 10 days (reducing to 5 days if negative LFT) as well. I am hoping they relax their rules before May, otherwise I will have to move that holiday to the summer and cross my fingers it's relaxed by then, and find something else for May.

catswhisker1 · 22/01/2022 23:18

We looked at Holland as well, the entry restrictions seem the toughest there.

Oh goodness it's so hard to follow what the hell is going on.
I'm thinking about Italy at Easter or just not bothering.
Also supposed to be going to Netherlands in July.
It's weird how aware we used to be if other countries situation and now its hard to follow.

ZenNudist · 22/01/2022 23:21

Going America in May. Planning Slovenia in August. Fed up of UK breaks.

catswhisker1 · 22/01/2022 23:27

Me too we went away in the UK last summer and it pissed it down every single day. Just want a bit of sun and to be in a different place with different people, food and weather. I'm willing to jump through the hoops I think!

Slovenia is amazing Zen!

I wasn't going to bother but now you can get insurance for pre trip cancellation.

Seem to be a lot more people going abroad. I wasn't going to do America but our 2020 trip was cancelled and my family want to do it before worse illness and possibly death of family member who always wanted to go.
