@AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes

First time ever I saw your face was written by Ewan MacColl, Kirsty MacColl's dad. I think his partner Peggy Seeger sang it although it was Roberta Flack who had a big hit with it. I think!
I remember hearing an interview with the wife of the person who wrote it (didn't know it was Kirsty's dad. Love her!) saying that the song had been around for a while, but Roberta Flack made it huge.

Roberta Flack sings it so absolutely beautifully

Rogue1001MNer · 01/02/2022 19:20

Frankie, not quite sure I'm recognising the washing the sand off the shore one. Sorry

Last few outstanding. I'll add more/different lyrics later if still not got.

3
Well I don’t want no other love honey it’s just you I’m thinkin’ of
50s
You’ve got that it’s Elvis, but not the song.

15
You can tell her I had to see the world, or tell her that my ship set sail
You can say she'd better not wait for me, but don't tell her I'm in jail
Oh, don't tell her I'm in jail
60s

20
People tell me love's for fools
So, here I go, breaking all the rules
50s

31
To string her along's just not right
If I couldn't I wouldn't
But what can I do, I'm lonely too
60s

33
Why Don't You Say Goodbye
Well There's A Light
And There's A Hope
Come Swing Me Baby
From This Here Rope
I Sold You A Lie
And Prayed That Maybe
Someday You'd Return It
60s

Fleamaker123 · 01/02/2022 20:03

Is the Elvis one All Shook Up?

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 01/02/2022 21:08

I thought 3 was Elvis but can't think of the song.

@Rogue1001MNer yes Roberta Flack's version is amazing. Have you seen the film Play Misty for Me, I saw it years ago, the song is in the film.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 01/02/2022 21:09

15 sounds like a Johnny Cash song.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 01/02/2022 21:13

@Rogue1001MNer love Kirsty MacColl as well, sadly missed.

Rogue1001MNer · 01/02/2022 21:32

Rogue1001MNer · 01/02/2022 23:08

@fanifanakapants

31 Mamas & Papas I saw her again last night
well done. Yes. Hello
Rogue1001MNer · 01/02/2022 23:11

the outstandings:-
15
You can tell her I had to see the world, or tell her that my ship set sail
You can say she'd better not wait for me, but don't tell her I'm in jail
Oh, don't tell her I'm in jail
60s

I don't think there's any point in putting up more lyrics for this one. It's the Everly Brothers (again). But not a very well known one, but my dad liked it.
It's called Take A Message To Mary.
The premise is that he's done a crime that's gone wrong. So he's asking someone to take a message to Mary to cancel their wedding and all their plans, but not to tell her he's rotting in jail.

MN would spot a load of red flags, but it's kind-of sweet.

I thought this one would have been got from a later cover. And a very famous tv tune.

Do these lyrics help more (from earlier in the song)?
Why Don't You
Tell Me Lies
You Ought To

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 02/02/2022 10:57

Sorry @Rogue1001MNer I can't think what it is. Sounds like a country and western song?

shinynewapple22 · 03/02/2022 17:37

Can we have the answers now please Rogue? Plus what was the title of song number 3?

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 03/02/2022 18:26
