I want to send my friends some things from the UK. Is there anything that goes down particularly well from the UK? Has anyone sent a gift like this regularly? They are an older couple, no kids, vegan.
Help meeeeee please!
WeaverofWords · 22/01/2022 19:17
*Recently, not regularly! 😬

Chocolate and sweets! Our American family go mad for it!
LethargeMarg · 22/01/2022 19:47
Cadbury's chocolate, teabags - American tea is terrible
singlenamestar · 22/01/2022 19:47
Marmite?
MacaroniCheeseCat · 22/01/2022 19:48
My American friend loves Crunchies and salt and vinegar crisps.

Vegan so several of the above are not suitable.
Does it need to be food? Oxfam do some nice vegan soaps.
Other than that things made from UK materials - sea glass jewellery? Welsh slate coasters? Some nice Staffordshire pottery?

Vegan cadburys or Lindt chocolate. Twiglets if they are vegan. Crisps, biscuits. Bombay mix.
aibutohavethisusername · 22/01/2022 19:56
You can get the new vegan Cadbury’s.
whattodo2019 · 22/01/2022 19:57
For a real treat have a look at Fortum and Mason vegan products

Oh I have one - a big tin of Golden Syrup - very useful for vegan recipes and difficult to source in the US.
And yes, some good tea.
caringcarer · 22/01/2022 19:58
Maltesers. You can't get them in US.
Gunpowder · 22/01/2022 19:58
I would send some English breakfast tea, posh marmalade and a tin of vegan shortbread if such a thing exists!

My US colleagues always ask for M&S Earl Grey tea and any type of M&S biscuits when I visit
FAQs · 22/01/2022 20:00
M&S Percy Pigs.
IWasFunBeforeMum · 22/01/2022 20:02

Something that will not be seized by Customs.
LittleMy77 · 22/01/2022 20:12
Depending on where they live, you can get most of what’s suggested above from US stores. Nice vegan chocolate (not. Cadbury’s, it’s all over there) is a nice idea
Be cautious about weight and value of what you post; US import charges are crazy on lots of stuff
goteam · 22/01/2022 20:12
M&S plant kitchen choc chip shortbread and truffles, decent teabags, twiglets (think they're vegan), kettle chips sheese and onion flavour, Bombay mix, fortnum and Mason mushroom and bean pate, some marmalade
starstarstarlight · 22/01/2022 20:18
A copy of a typically British magazine? Country Life, Gardeners World etc
Yorkshire Tea
English recipe book
WeaverofWords · 22/01/2022 20:33
This is brilliant! Thank you so much for ideas - please keep them coming in! They are in Alabama, it doesn’t sound like they have much in the way of English stores selling our stuff.
Yes, vegan, so not sure if Cadbury’s chocolate is ok, but definitely tea, maybe Emma Bridgewater, yes! I thought maybe little souvenir type things of British materials, yes.
Keep the ideas coming, please! I’m particularly stuck on stuff for him. Guess these can be joint things…
Will hit the shops on Monday. Good point about import tax arghh how do I get round that? They sent me stuff with me not paying anything.
