Should I apply for this job?

There's a job that's come up in a local school. For a TA to support SEN students. They say they're advertising for part time and full time roles. I would like to apply to do three days a week. I worked as a SEN TA before for three years but haven't worked at all for the last six because i stayed home with the kids. One of my children is disabled and two have SEN. I had to home educate like almost everyone else during the pandemic but also part time home educated my child for the last six years too. They're in school full time now with good support. I can't do full time, my caring duties still exist for my child and I'm not interested in running myself into the ground. But I am interested in doing something for me for a change.

I'm worried it will look bad if I apply with a huge work history gap.

I'm worrying also it as it's a big step to go back to work!

Should I apply?

Yes.

Of course
Worst case scenario you don’t get it - but you don’t have it now!
Do it and best of luck

Just apply, the worst that can happen is you don’t get it, you’ve lost nothing.

Good luck!!

Definitely apply!

Well you definitely won’t get it if you don’t apply!

And if you apply and don’t get it nothing has changed, and you haven’t lost anything. But you have a much better chance if you apply!

Go for it! It's a gap but what you've been doing in that time has been super relevant!

GrapefruitPink · 21/01/2022 19:59

Go for it.

MadeForThis · 21/01/2022 20:00

You probably have better and more relevant experience than most.

Stichintime · 21/01/2022 20:04

Of course apply and list the skills and experience you used and gained during the gap, but include more about the paid employment. Good luck.

SmellyOldOwls · 21/01/2022 20:06

Loads of schools needing staff at the moment so it's a good time to apply, good luck!

NotTheGrinchAgain · 21/01/2022 20:08

Yes of course you should apply, you sound ideal for the role. Loads of people have big gaps on their CV, especially with covid having caused so much disruption.

Schools cant get TAs at the moment- they will welcome you
Just explain your work history/family situation in the application
