Odd question, but is there a puff pastry shortage?

Ready made...nobody wants to eat pastry I've tried to make myself, believe me Grin

Couldn't get any on the online shop 2 weeks ago, didn't think anything of it. Tried again this week, still no luck. Have been out this morning and tried Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Lidl, and a small independent supermarket and not one roll or block of ready made puff in sight, chilled or frozen. Mentioned it in passing to a friend who lives in the next borough and she said the same thing! Anyone else noticed? Just seems like a weird thing to have a shortage of, though obviously not the end of the world.

I don't know - it does seem odd but it wouldn't surprise me. All sorts of weird things seem to be suddenly unobtainable on the last few months.
I can;t get gravy bones for my dog (a little dog biscuit thing that he loves) why would they disappear from shelves?

Also ready salted crisps seem to be few and far between - I got excited the other day as I saw some in B and M and bought a multipack - when I got home I found they were packaged like ready salted but turned out to be some Godawful roast potato flavour - they taste like chicken and garlic and are horrible.

I've no idea but the title of your post made me chuckle!

Didn’t turn up from my online shopping order today.

There was major recall of all the JUs_Roll makes on Which the other day. Can't remember why, but if it's very recent, that might be why

yep - here

SmellyOldOwls · 21/01/2022 12:08

Probably! Where have all the crisps gone too?!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/01/2022 12:08

I saw a load of frozen pastry, frozen pain au Chocolat dough, and frozen croissant dough reduced to 9p in the chilled section the other day. I guess they double production for Christmas and then assume nobody wants any more in January!

CeleriacOfTheNight · 21/01/2022 12:08

Maybe coincidence but yes, I had to make pie with shortcrust this week where I would normally use puff

I had an email from Asda to discard the roll of puff I'd had delivered last week, due to a quality incident. Couldn't find any in the shops to replace it.

dontblamemee · 21/01/2022 12:08

Tried to buy some yesterday! Can't find it anywhere. (Well, not in the two shops I actually looked in 😂)

toomuchlaundry · 21/01/2022 12:10

The recall notice came out the day after we had used a pack of the puff pastry

Blackmagicqueen · 21/01/2022 12:14

Yes there is shortcrust everywhere but no puff, luckily I haven't needed any. I last bought puff pastry at Christmas time, I think from asda. Somebody might come along with a good recipe to make some!

BearSoFair · 21/01/2022 12:15

Yes to gravy bones too, Sister asked me to have a look because she couldn't find them for her dog either!

Thanks @Seeline, that explains it, I'd missed that news!

I got some in Waitrose today.

Checked the date and it is BB 9th Feb, so not affected

Amandasummers · 21/01/2022 12:18

I’ve been wondering the same thing about shortbread! Everywhere I’ve been, it’s been cleaned out as though it’s a seasonal item 🤷🏻‍♀️

haggisaggis · 21/01/2022 12:19

I wanted some too and couldn't find it - didn't know about the recall so that's interesting.

WellTidy · 21/01/2022 12:20

I wouldnt be surprised. I haven’t been able to get dishwasher salt locally for weeks. I resorted to ordering it from Amazon in the end.

BonnesVacances · 21/01/2022 12:22

I couldn't find any at Christmas so ended up making my own which got loads of compliments. I used Paul Hollywood's cheats puff pastry. It meant freezing the butter and then grating it, but it was fine. Just don't overwork it and handle it as little as possible. The PITA bit I find is actually rolling it.

NutCheeseBag · 21/01/2022 12:33

Bought two packs from Aldi this morning.I’m in Scotland though.

TheDogsMother · 21/01/2022 12:36

I can seem to find single pints of milk anywhere. Two pints, four pints all readily available but no single pints !

GrendelsGrandma · 21/01/2022 12:42

Yeah weird! I ordered a pack of puff to make sweet potato and feta pie, they've sent tomato flavoured pizza dough instead?!

ItsNotNormalLove · 21/01/2022 12:54

@SmellyOldOwls

Walkers had a major fire, there have been supply issues ever since with all sorts of crisps, some you don't even realise are made by Walkers.
squishee · 21/01/2022 13:00

frozen pain au Chocolat dough

What is this witchcraft of which you speak?
I'm only torturing myself here (not UK)

SoupDragon · 21/01/2022 13:05

I was coming on to post about the salmonella scare too. I had an email from Sainsbury's as I'd bought some.

Oooo that sounds like an interesting combination? I think I would use it!
