Recommend a rug you have, that doesn't gather up

I need a new rug for the playroom, open on colours. Just had various things that bunch up. So probably some thing thicker and heavier would be best.

Currently have a car rug which is think but sticks on the hardwood floor as rubber backed, which most rugs aren't.

So what do you have ?!

Can you put down a rug grip to stop it from bunching up?

We are getting a Ruggable. Have a dog and was happy to pay the price so I can wash it!

The Totter and Tumble rugs are amazing, we have one in our playroom.

So you don't have it yet ? I'd be interested to see if it works

I have an IKEA rug, it’s thick and comfy and doesn’t move even when being hoovered.

boolabingbo · 19/01/2022 10:27

@IsThisNameTaken is it on a wooden floor or carpet? I've had various grip things and rugs seem to still move or bunch . The only one rug that didn't bunch, was really thick but has been ruined by the kids and despite cleaning it many time it had to go.

I was sceptical too Smile

I am only getting one because next door already have. It does. And it goes through their perfectly normal washing machine and comes out clean and unfaded.

Good Housekeeping recommend it too.

You need a decent underlay TBH. We got one from Ikea that stopped our rugs moving.

boolabingbo · 19/01/2022 10:30

@falalalalalalablahblah oh looks good, just wonder if my dog would dent it with his claws? How is the edge is it a trip hazard as rug would be just in doorway .. like so

With a T&T you may want to pop some tape / tape tabs down in the corners as it can curl slightly over time, I'm not sure on claws as it's pretty sturdy but it's super practical for tumbling kiddies!

@boolabingbo wooden floor - floorboards not in particularly good condition though so quite rough already, definitely not polished!

RamblinBoy · 19/01/2022 10:53

You need this kind of mesh one

Rugs & Stuff Rug Anti Slip Gripper Underlay Hard Floors - 160 x 230cm - See listing for other sizes www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AK9TL4W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_0G8JD4MEVPJEECZRAF2W?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

There are a few different brands available but they're all a similar product. We have it on all our rugs on floorboards and they don't move an inch.

As far as rugs go, you can get ones made from recycled fabrics which I like. We have one made from recycled jeans, so it's all shades of blue. It's beautiful and unusual and was really cheap.
