We're going with friends in February and are just staying Saturday night. Can anyone recommend somewhere good for dinner? We all like a nice glass of wine and we'll eat steak, English food, Italian, anything but Indian really

Ate o Clock. We had the most amazing meal there last year. I loved it.

The Guy fawkes Inn, right in town. We've had a couple of lovely meals there.

We had a gorgeous meal at ate o clock. Def recommend. Lucia's is nice if you want something a bit livelier

Valentino's in Blossom Street is nice. They used to do early dinner offers. Might be worth seeing if they still do them.

RedRobyn2021 · 18/01/2022 21:37

I vote Lucia's as well

There's also a great Tapas place on fossgate called Ambiente

Star in the City, lovely setting next to Lendal Bridge and the River. Amazing food and great atmosphere!

BookShark · 18/01/2022 21:39

The Star Inn The City is nice modern European food with a decent wine selection.

Ambiente tapas on Goodramgate is good if you want something for sharing and nice wines as well.

Fossgate street has lots of lovely restaurants. We particularly liked the Italian restaurant - Marzano. Also liked Guy Fawkes pub mentioned above.

Cut and craft or Tomahawk for steak, Star in the City is nice but over priced.

Susiesue61 · 18/01/2022 23:11

Star inn the city looked a bit much for us! We have booked Marzano, looked fab and great reviews, and earmarked some of the others for drinks 😊 Thank you all so much for your help, DH is impressed!!

I always think Star in the city is overrated tbh!

Cut n craft was a bit 'chain restauranty feeling' for me. I didnt enjoy it much. Plus the music was loud.

Lucia's

Also came here to say Ambiente. There’s also one on Goodramgate as well as a more tapas bar style one called Tabanco by Ambiente.
