Would you give up on this party?

DH turned 40 in early 2020. We had a big party all planned which we obviously had to cancel. At the time, we hoped to have it for his 41st, but that wasn't possible, and he'll now be 42 this year. I'm obviously not sure what the situation will be in another couple of months re restrictions on large gatherings and wearing masks indoors (we're in Scotland).

Would you just forget the whole thing? I feel bad for him that he didn't get to properly celebrate but time is moving on and obviously loads of people have had to miss life events. I'm 40 this winter and whilst we could do something jointly, we're different people with different ideas of what we want and who knows if I'll get to celebrate anyway if we get another winter variant?

I'm really asking as a number of companies (caterer, DJ, cake maker etc) are still holding deposits and I don't know whether we should just cut our losses.

Thoughts?

What does he want?

He's wishy washy about it. Deep down I think he still wants to have the party but recognises it might be a bit ridiculous doing it so long after the actual event?

I would do it. Everyone has missed so much. I would love to attend a friends 40th x 2 party!

Have a joint party to celebrate both your 40th birthdays
