Help! Smashed a bottle of TCP on carpet

Oh god, the smell is everywhere Shock

Has anyone else managed to get it out of a carpet before? How?

It smashed into a thousand tiny shards which I had to gingerly pick up by tape before I could scrub it, which probably didn't help.

I've scrubbed it, tried bicarbonate of soda overnight.

Someone, help please!

Arrange a nuclear apocalypse? Then the cockroaches will be left with the TCP problem

If you have accidental damage cover on your house contents insurance OP you may be able to claim. Worth checking your policy

ohgoditsawful · 19/01/2022 16:33

@ChiaraRimini that is GENIUS. I think we do, I will look.

Day 3 and we woke up thinking "oh, it's not that bad, maybe the baking power helped". Then we turned the heating on and found out how wrong we were Grin

Sell your house to my mum?
She LOVES the smell of tcp and would find this enchanting.

TheSpottedZebra · 19/01/2022 16:37

But if you don't want to move, and don't yet want the hassle of new carpets, you could do the old trick of cutting out the portion of tcp carpet, and then hiding the hole with a rug over the top.

I love the smell of TCP. Perhaps we should do a house swap for 18 months? Wink

olivo · 19/01/2022 16:42

I adore the smell of TCP! Sorry, not helpful!

I would say daily bicarb and hoover for a few days. Or unfortunately, a carpet cleaner.

haventgotadog · 10/02/2023 21:34

..wondering how you can smash a bottle on a carpet? 🤔

Tamarindtree · 10/02/2023 21:42

I knocked over a bottle. The smell evaporated. Don’t go overboard with the cleaning.

Wow, how did you find this thread after so long @haventgotadog?! 😁 can't believe it's been a year actually.

It dropped from about waist height onto carpet, and smashed into smithereens everywhere.

The corridor still has a weird smell 😬
