Cut finger still bleeding 12 hours later

Completely non essential question... but when should I seek medical attention?! It feels ridiculous for a cut on my little finger. It starts bleeding as soon as I take off compression EnvyConfused.

Phone 111.

MsWalterMitty · 17/01/2022 20:34

Have you held it above your head?

Soo you have steri strips to hold it together… it will heal better

Im2022 · 17/01/2022 20:37

12 hours is a long time. I’d go to a minor injuries clinic. Unless it’s gushing blood, then go to A&E.

How deep is the cut?

Olliesocks · 17/01/2022 20:40

Are you on aspirin or any other blood thinning medication?

sleepykits · 17/01/2022 20:44

Have held it above my head but not stopped. I cut it with a knife opening a box (how stupid am I?!).
It felt fairly deep but I haven't looked properly as it keeps bleeding. Urgh.
Definitely not gushing out! Has gone through the gauze I'd bandaged on but not flooding Confused.

I think I'll bandage it fresh tonight and see tomorrow morning. If it's still going I'll have to try and find a minors clinic? Surely can't go to a&e??

Ring 111

@Olliesocks

I'm on sertraline so don't take aspirin etc

I'd sterristrip it together, and see what it looks like in the morning. Its possibly too clean a cut to hold together properly.

I don't have any steri strips. I don't know why - they're brilliant for anything like this!

A similar thing happened to my DH not overly long ago whilst washing up one of his precious kitchen knives. He put a double later of plaster on but it was still bleeding the following morning so he took himself off to Minor Injuries who patched him up properly. He was only there about an hour.

Spudina · 17/01/2022 21:00

Thus happened to a patient of mine. It was a damaged arteriole and we had a plastic surgeon fix it. A minor injuries unit would be a good idea.

sleepykits · 17/01/2022 21:07

I'll ring tomorrow unless it's stopped.

Thanks all!

Do you have any micropore? Cut some thin strips of that-it's the same thing, just not sterile.

MaizeAmaze · 18/01/2022 20:53

@sleepykits how's the finger doing?

sleepykits · 18/01/2022 20:56

Hi @MaizeAmaze

Thanks for checking it. It's stopped bleeding (at last look this morning!) so I've steri stripped it and will check again tomorrow.

I think you were right about the cut being too clean.

Great news. Hope it heals fast now it's getting a chance.

gunnersgold · 18/01/2022 21:01

Mine did that , I had to go to Minor injuries and they wrapped it tightly . It stopped eventually .
