Passport photo verification

Do they not do this for renewals now? I've completed the application for a renewal and used a link to a photo online from a booth. Do they have some face recognition tech now? Just curious really.

It's only for new passports and children under 10. You are sent a link if it needs verified.
Me, Dh and dd have just had new ones and only dds needed verifying.

@HeCalledMeAddie How long did your renewals take?

@ApolloandDaphne
As it’s a renewal and they will already have a verified picture from the last one then for most people an updated picture will resemble an earlier one, so you in theory don’t have to be verified again -

the original verification was that you are the person applying in the form and the photo was of you
Your updated application covers any changes, and you have a fresh photo, if that looks sufficiently like the last verified photo then they are happy

Excellent. It just all seemed too simple!
