Anyone a foster carer? What is it like?

I’m possibly reading too many Cathy glass books Grin and bizarrely I keep getting adverts on Facebook for foster carers in my area.

I suppose I’m idly wondering if it’s something I could do at some point in the future. It seems incredibly rewarding but very hard work too I imagine.

There's a FC section under 'Becoming a Parent'.
My DDs' FC was amazing, brought them out of a bad situation and helped give them the stability to be moved to an adoptive home.
They often don't know who they are getting until the child arrives, and have to go with the flow.

I bloody love the Cathy Glass books.

I’ve said for a few years I would love to one day foster/adopt an adult with learning difficulties/Down syndrome etc but that’s very much a when I’m a grown up dream!

If I had my time again I might put children off for a few years and look to foster. DH is in the police and the amount of times he comes home and says he wished he could do something to actually help the kids in need.

I currently don’t have the time nor the emotional capacity to invest in fostering but never say never when mine are older and moved out.

I have absolute respect and awe for anyone who fosters. I find it to be such a vocation.
