Caught DD skin in zip

I feel absolutely terrible. I bought my DD a new coat, a really lovely warm one when it zips all the way up. Long story short I ended up catching the skin on her cheek in the zip. I genuinely feel like the worst person in the world.

These things happen. How's your dd?

YukoandHiro · 17/01/2022 08:30

Everyone's done this kind of thing at some point, don't worry. My husband caught our daughter's chin in a bike helmet catch and she hasn't let him put it on her again yet. That was two years ago 😂

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 17/01/2022 08:30

We’ve all done this at some point. Literally every parent has managed to clonk their head getting them in the car seat or pinch their skin on a buckle or zip. You feel awful about it but they’ll not even remember it. It’s a parenting right of passage imo.

Ostryga · 17/01/2022 08:30

Bless you! The guilt is real. I remember bashing 3 week old DD’s head off a door frame and I was hysterical. Phoned my mum in a panic - Dd was obviously completely fine!

She’ll be ok, and will forget it long before you do.

She was a bit sore initially but seemed to be fine not long after. It looked painful though. Poor thing

It happens. I once clipped dd1s thigh into the buckle of her bouncy chair. Everyone does things like this.

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 08:32

It was an accident

RonniePickering · 17/01/2022 08:46

Aww it happens, I caught my daughter's chin with an over enthusiastic zip up once, actually marked it 🥴

I did the same thing, just before the midwife came to do a check up! I was distraught as a little blood blister came up on DS’s thigh, the midwife couldn’t have cared less Grin

I accidentally punched 2 year old son in the face once. I was tugging his stuck coat zip up and my fingers slipped off. It happened on the bus. His nose bled, I burst into tears and all the lovely old ladies on the bus flocked round to comfort us saying how they had all done the same thing.

DropYourSword · 17/01/2022 10:55

I once enthusiastically lifted baby DS out of his pram and accidentally clonked his head on the staircase above us.
We've all had daft accidents, however careful we try to be. We're human, distracted, tired and sometimes just make mistakes.

I love @NadjaofAntipaxos story about the old ladies on the bus reassuring her they'd all accidentally done the same!

When my DD had just started crawling (so 9 months-ish) and had mastered the art of moving with the speed of light, I kicked her headfirst into a cupboard door when she appeared right in front of my feet as I was walking. She shook her head and crawled off Confused

Curlygirl06 · 17/01/2022 13:29

I was putting my eldest's coat on, massive big spider appeared and crawled towards her face. I had a hard plastic dolly in my hand, whacked the spider pretty swiftly with it and unfortunately caught the side of her face with it. She screamed, the other two dds screamed, bloody sure the spider screamed as well! She had a huge big red mark on her face- good fun explaining that to the school when I took her in! I stopped worrying the coats in that cupboard after that.

Curlygirl06 · 17/01/2022 13:30

Storing not worrying ^

Quornflakegirl · 17/01/2022 13:36

Dd has a very wobbly front tooth, while wiping her face with a flannel I managed to knock it out! The worst part was that it went flying and we couldn’t find it and all this before school one morning. I took her to school with blood shot eyes, bloody gums and a broken heart.

I’m sure you don’t feel so bad now!? Grin

ThePug · 17/01/2022 15:06

I peppered a dribble bib onto baby DS1 once and only when he yelped and was pulling at it did I realise I'd somehow got his skin on the back of his neck caught in the popper Shock

trumpisagit · 17/01/2022 15:12

DH caught DS1s chin in his bicycle helmet clip when he was 3. He still reminds us about it occasionally and he's 14.
We all do it, and it encourages them to be independent and do it themselves.

PragmaticWench · 17/01/2022 15:15

I once caught three year old DS's penis in his trouser zip (refused pants at that time), then had to unzip it whilst he was howling. Sad

Not sure I've ever got over that horror show.

Shapiro · 17/01/2022 15:19

Strangely enough I recall catching my children’s skin in zippers, accidentally treading on them and a whole variety of unintentionally causing a temporary moment of physical pain when they were growing up and didn’t think much of it after the kisses and cuddles to make them feel better.

However, I once caught one of my Dog’s ears in a click in collar and he gave a sharp scream and I was beside myself!

AsYouWishButtercup · 17/01/2022 15:20

Ah bless you OP, happens to the best of us! How old is she?

Wait til you trap her fingers in the door - awful!

junglejane66 · 17/01/2022 15:51

A colleague caught his foreskin in his zip in a restaurant toilet on a first date and had to go to A&E. They ended up marrying
