I've just applied for a job

Backstory... I got married and became a SAHM soon after graduating University.
Eldest DD is now 10. I have followed my husband around Europe for over 10 years, before DDs and I settled down last summer in preparation for her starting secondary school.

And now I've applied for my first proper job in over 10 years.

I'm both terrified and proud of myself for trying. I have low expectations due to only having had voluntary roles recently.

Now to find more jobs to apply for! Most places seem to want shift work though and I can only work 8-5 Monday to Friday...

Well done! You should be proud of yourself, you've taken a very big and courageous step for yourself!

Well done and good luck! I need to apply for a new job but I’m finding it hard to face the thought of applications and interviews again! This gives me motivation Smile What are you applying for?

Well done

Good for you. There's nothing 'only' about voluntary work. You gave up your time for no money. Please don't knock it

I'm a failure
So don't try to tell me
There's so much potential inside me
Because at the end of the day
l'Il never find a job
I need more experience
I've been out of work too long
And don't try to convince me that
There is real value inside of me
Because deep down I know
I am useless and unemployable
And nothing you say will make me believe
I will make it in this world.

Thank. Its work in school. I actually qualified as a teacher before life took a different turn.

I don't regret my life choices and I definitely value my voluntary work. I actually managed to type two sides of A4 about and haven't mentioned everything. Unfortunately I know from experience not everyone values it.

Well done OP - you can do it!

I am now working full-time in an admin role for a charity after 15 years off at home. I found it hard to leave my dc in other peoples' care due to traumatic events in my own childhood. However, my mental health really suffered and I went from having low self esteem to feeling utterly worthless. Volunteering turned it around for me and I was surprised at how many job interviews I got on the strength of it.
