What did you do by accident as a child you still feel bad about?

This actually came back to me in a nightmare last night.

When I was 8 I was told at school to unplug the school record player. I certainly did unplug something - the fish tank and next day all the fish were dead. I got told off in front of the whole school and was given lines :(

I still feel bad about the poor fishes to this day but it genuinely was an accident. Still feel quite aggrieved I got told off like that too.

You shouldn't have been told off like that, that's dreadful. You'd have felt bad enough anyway.

I told my mum that I loved my dad more. I was about 5. It wasn't an accident, but it wasn't true and I have no idea why I said it. I still feel awful 40 years later. I mentioned it to her a couple of years ago and she can't remember it!

When I was younger about 10, I stopped eating meat as a child and my mum Always made it clear she resented having to make extra food for me, once she cooked me pizza as I wouldn’t eat what everyone else was eating, she left the oven door open on accident and my brother who was a baby at the time grabbed the trays in the oven and burnt his hand. She blamed me for that because she had had to cook me and extra meal and said it wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t, still feel bad about it now!

Oh god, that’s so sad!!

Mine is definitely when I was reciting a mean rhyme I’d heard at school to my mum, as a goody goody sort horrified 7 year old, ‘here comes the bride, short, fat and wide’…
My auntie had just come in the house. She was getting married the next week and was short and quite overweight, altho had been dieting for the wedding. You couldn’t make that timing up. She burst into tears and altho mum explained, I don’t think she believed her Sad

Not by accident but there was a book of short stories I loved in primary school. One day I found a copy of the book sitting on a window ledge in the school corridor and without stopping to think I picked it up and put it in my bag. I felt guilty every time I looked at it after that and more than 50 years on I still feel guilty that I took it!
