Do you mean the football museum in town? If so, the People’s History Museum or the City Art Gallery are options.

Diditopknot · 16/01/2022 10:18

The Manchester football ground/stadium place. We are about 10 minutes from it now but not booked in to the tour till after lunch.

What Manchester football ground though?

Diditopknot · 16/01/2022 10:23

United. Apparently!
Sorry, I’ve no knowledge of anything football. Here with family who are.

Have lunch in hotel football or the red cafe & make sure to spend some time in the United Store.
Not sure there's an awful lot to do around Old Trafford though.

Walk over to Salford Quays and do the imperial war museum and media city. Nice for a stroll and a coffee

Diditopknot · 16/01/2022 10:32

Yeah thought not. I’ve done the usual Google map search, the MOSI is a way away, parking anywhere’s rubbish.
I’ve looked at trip advisor, all the usual things and it’s all at the Trafford centre, we were there yesterday, it was HEAVING with very few masks worn.

I would walk over to the quays as PP said. Nice for a wander.

2ducksandI · 16/01/2022 10:34

Walk around Salford Quays

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 10:35

Manchester Art Gallery, or

The Whitworth Gallery, or

The Imperial War Museum (though probably a bit cold for a leisurely stroll along Salford Quays).

Get a cab!

(I’m a slow key tapper!)

Diditopknot · 16/01/2022 10:42

There are loads of footpaths closed, barriers and roadworks all along the road we noticed last night. Not easy to find anyway around.
Also looks very very rundown looking out of the hotel window.
Won’t be back here but it’s what 8 year old wanted for birthday.

Loved Manchester in the 80’s & 90’s, was the best place other than London for a wander and shopping.

Football place lol

You mean Old Trafford, home of the biggest team in the world

OnTheBoardwalk · 16/01/2022 10:46

As other posters have said walk over to Salford Quays or the war museum

Likkleredridinghood · 16/01/2022 10:49

But old Trafford isn't manchester city centre ? It's sill great for a wander and shop.

@Diditopknot it still is, but you haven't gone in to Manchester. Go to Salford Quays and have a look around MediaCity and The Lowry, it will pass the time.

Diditopknot · 16/01/2022 10:51

Yes! Old Trafford, that’s the one (I think)
So sorry, no interest, no knowledge and no idea about anything football! Here with someone who does though.
I had no idea it was that important!! Thought it was a wee football pitch you could go and look at.
Sounds fabulous, glad I was dragged along now.
Ds will be absolutely blown away! Smile

I would very much recommend that little football place for a few hours out if you are in the area, they have great gardeners because the grass on the football pitch we saw was bloody lovely and there’s history which was very interesting.
You have to go into a male changing room but it’s ok as it’s quite clean with no unsavoury smells.
Lots of stairs so I got my steps in, the kids that weee there had a ball.
Top tip, when in the big gift shop, choose carefully who you ask where the loos are. People head to toe in football stuff… do not necessarily work in that shop.
Embarrassing exchange with a fan who had no idea where the loos were. But she SO looked like she worked there.
