Ladybower plug holes - help!

Binglebong · 15/01/2022 22:42

I'm considering adding to the hoards going to see the plug holes at Ladybower tomorrow. Can anyone tell me where they are (I've been round Ladybower but it was summer so the plugs weren't working) and if there is a way to see before I go if they are on? It's a long way in chilly weather if not! Thanks.

They're right by the dam, so on the road towards Hope valley.

I used to love going and looking at the overflows in flood when I was younger (and of course living nearish).

Go up to Derwent Dam if you can - the spillway is the whole of the front...

Mundra · 15/01/2022 22:49

The spillway looks incredible, doesn't it? Imagine if it froze!

Binglebong · 16/01/2022 00:32

So is it just above the dam? There seem to be a few versions online. And anyway of knowing I advance if they are still going? Very much appreciate your help with this.

Not heard of this and had to click cos thought...

Something to do with unblocking drains?
Sounds possibly sex thing?
Gardening?

🤣🤣🤣

Going to Google

Have fun at plugholes op!

Omicrone · 16/01/2022 00:40

Ooooh are they overflowing then?

You still would have seen the plugs in the summer wouldn't you?

CheeseMmmm · 16/01/2022 00:40

OMG awesome!

Love the plugholes! Definitely would go see if in vicinity, my kind of thing Grin

Binglebong · 16/01/2022 00:50

I can't remember seeing them I summer, nod I think if it. We only went as far as the little building with the plaque above the dam though.

Why are they specifically different at the moment? Do you have any pictures? I have to say they really give me the heebie jeebies!

OnlyClothes · 16/01/2022 01:17

Oh I’ve just seen on the BBC, amazing!

Binglebong · 16/01/2022 01:18

Here you go. They are always there but i think you can't see they when turned off. Could be completely wrong! www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-59966942

Very photogenic OP, these photos may give you an idea where to stand for the best view.

TW link shows photos of hole in the reservoir.

Sorry, hadn't refreshed my page so didn't see your post Blush

Binglebong · 16/01/2022 09:55

How was it? Did you get any good pictures?

Binglebong · 04/02/2022 08:22

Sorry I've only just seen this.

It was really crowded and hard to park - turned out the plugs had only been open for a few hours on Wednesday anyway! Still a nice day but not as planned.

I knew there was one at dam flask but not at Ladybower. Those pictures look as terrifying as they are amazing.

GruffaloSolja · 04/02/2022 09:52

Just see this while googling www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-50157693.amp
Look at this crazy fisherman right next to the hole. It's the stuff of nightmares.

Binglebong · 04/02/2022 15:06

Complete looney. If he had been hurt he should have to pay for his rescue.

I live 10 minutes from there and have never heard about this!

BluTangClan · 04/02/2022 15:49

Someone disposed of some incriminating evidence in one of these in a TV programme recently. I can't remember which one though.
