From wakeup to getting started how long does it take you to get going on the weekend?

I am good at planning but terrible at getting started with my list of things to do. It takes me easily 3 or 4 hours to crack on with tasks I need to do. I'm a student so study on weekends too.

How long does it take you to wake up and get going? Do you have any tips on how to get faster in the mornings? Ideally I'd like to spend a leisurely hour having breakfast, reading the papers and then getting on with jobs at hand. I hate wasting time but I do it a lot.

I have always loved leisure time and have always had hobbies, tried activities and done voluntary work whilst having a career and having two children. But how to cram in all this good stuff.

To me doing all the shit work as we call it in this house like laundry, unloading the dishwasher, dusting the tv, quotes for insurance, you get the picture is a waste of time as it so far removed from being enjoyable. So I have always been efficient because deep down I want time to do what I like. Plus if it’s left it takes up some mental space in your head so I have always done what I like the least first. I used that approach at work as well.

I’m retired now but I still if I’m doing some shit work attack it with speed even though I’m not rushing out the door for an early start and awful commute because I will always hate that shit work.

So I would get up do chores and then fully enjoy reading the papers without that mental load of knowing I had stuff I dislike waiting for me.

@CharSiu That's a great point about having the fun stuff afterwards. Thanks a lot :)

Eldest had a driving lesson at 9.30am so we were all up at 7am. I like to keep everyone busy at weekends. You can sleep when you're dead😂

I roll out of bed, pee, wal, then straight out to walk dog so about 3 minutes?

Wake up, drink tea in bed, leisurely breakfast around 10, shoot the shit with DH for a while and get going sometime after lunch.

Takes me hours and hours unless I have to be somewhere (and I try to plan not to have to be somewhere if I can).

Mind you, I’m a major faffer and bloody love faffing and pottering. I’d faff and potter every morning for 2 - 3 hours if I could so the weekend is where I can fulfil that need.

Mornings are such a rush during the week so I love to be able to have at least one of the weekend mornings to just go slowly!

It depends. I'd good intentions to get up at 8am but didn't get up until 9. Had been awake since 6ish thanks to DS2 and the dog.

I showered and then headed out to do some errands about 9.45.

Oh my god I LOVE weekend mornings to just do nothing!
I had an intense week at work & a restless night Thurs night as I had a v challenging series of meetings Friday.
I got through them in one piece & the sense of relief was wonderful last night.

I woke v early but decided to go back to sleep & only woke again at 10.30! A couple of coffees with my book & I was still mooching around at lunchtime.
The weather is crap here, wet & cold so I've just pottered all day really. An ideal Saturday in lots of ways.
Tomorrow the weather is meant to be much better so we'll go for a lovely long walk in a scenic area.
Down time is important at weekends for me

No difference from weekdays because I'm retired! What I like best is to get up around 6, have a quiet breakfast with the paper and the radio before DP surfaces, get going on other stuff around 7.
