What the hell is this?

Can anyone identify this creepy wee beastie. It appeared on my table this morning. No idea where it came from or what it is. I’m in Australia so some kind of antipodean monstrosity? I have a video of it moving but don’t know if I can attach it. It has a wormy head that pokes out and pulls its body along. The head disappears ( like a tortoise’s head does) when it is not moving. Any ideas?

Ahh I'm in England and we get them here. If I'm correct it's a a Case-bearing clothes moth.

Keep you eye out for any more because an infestation can be awful for any textiles/materials in your house.

Yikes. Some sort of moth lavae maybe?

Thank you both. I googled your suggestion, Worra and it is indeed. We get the odd moth but I have never seen one of these before. Hopefully there aren’t any more. The way it moves is decidedly creepy- DD thought it may be a demogorgan 😄

We get them at work and when I first saw a couple stuck to the wall, I thought it was bird shit and couldn't quite work out what it was doing on an inside wall 😂

They're fascinating creatures though because they can get into material and basically camouflage themselves, so they can go undetected.

I'm sure you'll be fine but just keep an eye out for more.

I did panic a bit as I was eating sultana bran when I spotted it undulating across the table. It was exact colour of a bran flake and I thought it had somehow come from my cereal 😄 I’m quite relieved tbh.
