Daft question - towels

Hi

Stupid question alert - please don't laugh BlushGrin

I've recently joined the gym and am hoping to go swimming a few times a week. It's been a very very long time since I've been swimming.. Can I just hang out my towel to dry between each session? Will leaving chlorine on it damage it?

I know it's a stupid question that I should know the answer to.. but I don't!

I feel washing it after every swim is overkill. I will wash my little towel that I stand on and my swimming costume.

If you are still here, and can read this through the laughter tears, then thank you!

I'd wash it but I don't suppose it's essential.

itwasntaparty · 13/01/2022 08:46

I always wash mine, didn't occur to me not to tbh

JuneOsborne · 13/01/2022 08:48

Yeah, I'd wash it too, in with the little towel and your cozzie.

FGSWhatNow · 13/01/2022 08:49

With the kids' swimming stuff we put it on a 15 minute quick wash after each session then a full wash every few weeks.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/01/2022 08:50

I put DDs stuff through the quick was cycle, no powder, then hang to dry.

I have specific swimming towels. They're not expensive ones that I'd be annoyed about getting faded.

If I'm swimming more than once a week I'll normally hang towel and rinsed out costume to dry and then stick in the wash at the weekend / once a week.

No issues from this in my lifetime so far.

Mamamamasaurus · 13/01/2022 08:53

I wash the kid's towels and costumes but water only, no washing powder or softener. I tumble dry the towels to keep them soft and not-scratchy

MaizeAmaze · 13/01/2022 08:54

We used to wash ours once a week or so - and were swimming most days. They were fine.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/01/2022 09:18

I always shower after my daily swim so not much chlorine on my towel. I wash it as regularly as I wash my other towels. My swimming costumes are rinsed out in tap water when I get home, and hung up to dry they shouldn't be washed with washing powder too much. I wash them fairly sporadically, they are only worn for an hour each day and are in water all that time.

violetbunny · 13/01/2022 09:29

I would always wash it after every swim. I'm less concerned about chlorine, and more about the other human soupy bits that are in the pool water Sad

borntobequiet · 13/01/2022 09:38

I just rinse my swimsuit to get rid of the chlorine but always wash towels as I fold and stand on them after drying my body.

PattyPan · 13/01/2022 09:53

I use my towels multiple times after swimming and no harm has come to them. I also wear my cossie multiple times, I just rinse the chlorine out when I get home and hang it to dry.

CMOTDibbler · 13/01/2022 09:57

I have a hammam towel for drying off after swimming (plus a terry nappy square to stand on and a microfibre hair turban) and wash it each time but its super fast to dry and I just chuck everything in the washing machine on a cold short wash

BiscuitLover3678 · 13/01/2022 09:58

I’d definitely wash it or it’ll start to smell. The chemicals may be worse for it then constantly washing it anyway.

mandoforever · 13/01/2022 10:06

I use my used but clean bath towel to go swimming with and they're only used for swimming once before washing.

sofakingcool · 13/01/2022 10:12

@mandoforever

I use my used but clean bath towel to go swimming with and they're only used for swimming once before washing.
Oh that's an idea!

Sorry, can you tell I'm an absolute swimming novice BlushGrin, this is a new world to me!

Thanks everyone
