Elocution lessons

Has anyone taken elocution lessons or any type of training to improve their speech / accent / vocabulary /delivery of speech? I realise I hate how I speak, my accent, my tone/pitch and how I speak and think it's something I would like to work on. I am interested in this but don't know anyone who's done this (Or openly discusses anyway). Keen to hear opinions on if others found this worthwhile

I have. I was sent as a child because my mother couldn't understand me. I was taught to speak clearly without an accent. Later on I used thee opportunity to change my speaking voice from high to low. Thing Mrs Thatcher! Friends who have gone as adults have worked with the same goal, to speak well but naturally, not pretentiously.

Our primary school nuns had an elocution teacher come in weekly to try to eradicate our WC accents. Endless memories of

‘Start with your tongue between your teeth
Then draw it gently through.
This is the way the TH goes!
Try it — why don’t you?’

and

‘Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers’

spoken by a chain-smoker with the drawling, deeply camp diction of a pantomime dame. While we went on sounding like ourselves.
