@Skeumorph

Xander or Xanthe
My name is Xanthe and whilst I like it you only get the very occasional person who can pronounce or spell it, it can be exhausting. Please consider this Smile

I know an Astera, pronounced like "As - stair - rah" and I've always liked it. Although my DH says it sounds like a Vauxhall car Grin It means star, like Esther, or Hester.

I was tempted to call my DS, Aneurin, pronounced like "An - nye - run" and shortened to Nye after Aneurin "Nye" Bevan. But I'm not Welsh, and chickened out.

If you want unusual try Graham or Katherine, Clare, Sarah etc. In fact any names that used to be common are never used now because ironically everyone is trying to be different.

Skeumorph · 13/01/2022 20:12

Good point actually. Clive or Anita would be perfect

@orio you just have been unlucky. My DD (20yr) is Xanthe and she's not really had any problems. Occasionally Xanthia and the Spanish teacher at her school always got it wrong. But other than that she's had more problem with her rare but very easy English Surname! I joke she should use my Greek one instead!

When I tell people they usually get it and retain the information.

That’s so odd! I got that message before I’d even posted properly. I was giving some Classical Greek and Roman names that linked with Ocean. I wonder what I said!

m1shap3 · 13/01/2022 20:48

It's so nice seeing River pop up.

My youngest (5) is River and we've never met another one! And my middle kid is Bluebell... also yet to meet another.
