Do you want something about the same level of popularity as Ocean? Ocean is the 439th most popular name for a girl, just outside the top 1000 for a boy. Or were you thinking more of a theme, a nature name?

Girls names at a similar level of popularity to Ocean -
Jennifer, Iona, Catherine

Girls names with a nature theme
Juniper, Raven, Ember, Ebony, Shelby, Dawn, Summer, Winter, Autumn

Boys names with a similar level of popularity (top 400-500)
Atticus, Zane, Dennis, Odin, Simon, Dante

Boys names with a nature theme
Orion, Cassian, Caspian, River, Ash

Merrow (goes with your sea theme)
Planetina
Xanthe
Artemis

Castor
Orion
Balonz (we’re all waiting for someone to actually use it)
Wolfgang

Thaddeus for a boy

Sorry, Jasper is quite well-used. I just added it because it is nice and has a nature vibe.

Aalto. Boy’s name, means “wave” (like the sea, not “goodbye”) in Finnish.

Carsten/Torsten/Florian/Caspar. Beautiful, but not on an English boy.

Duncan Jones had the right idea.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/01/2022 23:15

Winter (could work for boy or girl)

PiesNotGuys · 12/01/2022 23:38

@AffIt are you meaning Duncan Jones had the right idea because he decided no longer to be known as Zowie Bowie?

Or are you meaning he had the right idea for naming his own daughter Zowie Bowie? She has it as her given name and she’s 3 I think.

You'd sort of hope he'd have learned from his own experience.

I had an ex-boyfriend who went to Gordonstoun with Duncan when he was known as 'Joe' (by his own hand), but a few very cruel teachers insisted on calling him by his 'birth name', which was 'Bowie, Z', and, according to my ex, he took an absolute hammering for it.

My real name is very niche, but that's because it's a name that's very specific to the country and culture I was born in.

I use a shortened/Anglicised version, because I work in a senior position in a global industry and it's not the easiest to pronounce. I personally love it now, but it took me years to get to grips with it, and I spent a long time wishing I had been called Alison or something.

I just can't understand why you would willingly saddle your child with a name that is potentially so far out there that it will cause problems.
