When requesting holiday should you have to find cover yourself before requesting it or is it up to your employer to sort cover for you.

Upto employer.

Employer's responsibility.

But saying that I do always check with my colleagues to see if anyone else is on leave then as employer can refuse the request if there aren't enough staff to cover.

I was going to say it depends on the job! But yes I’m sure it is ultimately the employers responsibility.

Depends on the job. In my role I am expected to have ensured that any loose ends have been tied up and that there is cover in place. I also make sure that holidays are taken outside of busy periods.

I am an accountant so busy periods are every month plus budgeting period.

It is the employer's responsibility unless you are a self employed contractor.

However the employer has the right to refuse specific dates you may request (as long as you are able to take your full statutory or contractual allocation each year)
