Preserving WhatsApp and SMS messages

Hi, recently my mum died and I'm still paying her mobile phone bill for now. But soon I have to switch if off.

Does anyone know if all her messages to me will disappear from my own phone, when I terminate her mobile number? I can't think what will happen.

And does anyone know how I can download thousands of WhatsApp message and SMS messages? We were big on chatting especially during lockdown, and I know I will want to re-read our chats in future.

I still have all the messages on my phone from my mum. She had pay as you go though so not sure it’s the same as terminating a contract as such. I’ve had a new phone since she died and I can still see all the messages on SMS. She didn’t have WhatsApp so not sure if they’d be the same. I’m so sorry for your loss.

WhatsApp has an option to export. Go into the chat with your Mum and press her name at the top and then scroll down to 'export chat'. It will email you the entire chat log,

And her messages shouldn't disappear. Once sent they will remain.
