Is this a euphemism for OnlyFans in this BBC headline about a man who killed 3 people?

Headline reads Durham A1 crash: Lorry driver was browsing dating sites

and then it goes on to say

Phone records confirmed he had been navigating between two dating sites, had spent almost £50 to engage with users and was looking at profiles and editing his own while driving, Durham Crown Court heard.

and

Nick Dry, prosecuting, said: "He was utterly engrossed in internet activity, in pursuit of sexual gratification, over an extended period of time while in control of a large goods vehicle on a busy motorway."

Spending £50 to engage with users? Together with the quote from the prosecutor, that doesn't sound like a dating site; it sounds like a site where you pay to engage with women and men who upload pornographic content.

How could a man be so addicted to viewing pornography that he browsed for it while driving?! This is horrific.

Don't some dating sites have premium subscriptions?

Presumably if it was porn and not dating sites it would have said that.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 11/01/2022 23:14

Onlyfans isn't a dating site. There are sites that charge, and some of the 'hook up' ones you see advertised online charge around £1 per message (and that's for admin staff to reply, not actually real women)

TheSpottedZebra · 11/01/2022 23:14

Other news sites have them as Shag Today and Mystic Match

PermanentTemporary · 11/01/2022 23:14

Possibly. Tbh I don't really care. What a horrific thing. Would it have been better if he'd been buying an MN premium membership, or a New Scientist subscription?

funji · 11/01/2022 23:15

8 yrs is a joke

Hugasauras · 11/01/2022 23:16

If it had been porn there's no reason they wouldn't have said so. Sounds like he was trying to arrange sex hook-ups on paid dating sites.

Havilland · 11/01/2022 23:17

Onut had been looking sites S**g Today and Mystic Match and had spent almost £50 to buy credits to engage with users, and was looking at profiles and editing his own over a period of 40 minutes leading up to the smash.

Eight years for killing three people is pathetic.

PicaK · 11/01/2022 23:18

Yes I read "engage with users" as paying cam girls to perform - whether only fans or another even less salubrious site.
It's a tragedy for those killed

Hellocatshome · 11/01/2022 23:18

Nope just a quick look at more than one news source you would have found the sites named.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/01/2022 23:22

Okay, something called "shag today" makes far more sense of the apparently contradictory descriptions.

I can't fathom how you could be so impatient to do that while driving an HGV.
