Why is this name so popular all of a sudden? It was a brand of sanitary towel throughout the 60s/70s/80s. Awful name.

The name Lily became ubiquitous, migration from Russia and Eastern Europe, plus globalisation meant people heard the name Lilia and liked it.
Also people naming their new daughters now don't remember that brand.

I’m not fussed over the name but it’s not awful.

Lilia / Lilja is a diminutive Liliana/Liljana which is a popular name in various Eastern European and Balkan countries. I like it. It’s pretty.
