Why do I feel bad I shouldn’t !! But I do!

Why do I feel bad and guilty!

I’ve had a cleaner for just over 18 months.
5 hours a week - 3 one day, 2 another.
She only did the full time the first time and then has always left 10-15 mins early. Which tbh I left as she did a good job.

Yesterday she was putting her coat on 45 mins early??!!!

I said ‘oh. What’s the time ?’ And looked at my phone as I thought she hasnt been here that long !
She said she was finished so I said ‘I’m paying for 3 hours - if you are not going to do 3 hours today I’ll work out what you have done and pay for that time’ so she took her coat off crashed around wiping some more things then left 15 mins early 😱

I felt bad but she’s taking the piss right ?

With time management activities, it's slow down to max the hours, or rush around and complete the duties but at a quicker pace but then risk not putting in the full hours.

I just don’t understand as there is always something to do or she could ask me if there’s time over ? I just felt like 10/15 mins early ok not great but ok but not 45 mins and she was clearly annoyed so then I felt bad !

Then she slows down , I'd want the three full hours . Her time management s not my responsibility

Don't feel bad.

Theblacksheepandme · 11/01/2022 17:14

I wouldn't be happy with her leaving that early either.

DecentPleasant · 11/01/2022 17:15

Mine used to do that. Complete piss take. Fifteen is tolerable.

Redlorryyellowduck · 11/01/2022 17:26

This is why I stopped having a cleaner. The annoyance of having to pull someone up regularly in my own personal space was too annoying, as was her leaving earlier and earlier. Cleaning is never "done", there is always something else that can be done to fill the time.
45 minutes could be a huge pile of ironing, emptying and cleaning the fridge or some other big task.
Shes definitely taking the piss.

@Imnotassertive

Fair point op, I presumed it was set tasks, I understand your perspectives and frustrations.

StruggleStreet · 11/01/2022 17:37

She’s taking the piss completely. So much that could be done in 45 mins. Plenty of cleaners around OP, I wouldn’t have someone in my house that I don’t trust not to take advantage.

Eustonhalf · 11/01/2022 17:54

I don't see why she can't clean other things to make the time up if she's so fast. Otherwise you pay for the time it actually take to do the agreed job if it's so much less. I agree she can't have it both ways.

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 11/01/2022 17:56

I clean the some houses twice a week and If I finish early I tell the customer and they adjust the payment accordingly. If I am 5 or ten minutes early I will add that time on another day.

I wouldn't dream of leaving 45 mins early and expect to get paid for it.

CharlotteGoldenblattYork · 11/01/2022 18:04

Every cleaner we've ever had has started out ok, but has gradually got lazy and left early, cut corners and just not done jobs they don't fancy doing that day. It's a piss take
