Honest recommendations for suv cats please?

I'm looking at getting a new car.

I have a budget of around 17/18k and looking for a decent suv.

Looking for recommendations please - I currently have a Kia Sportage which I love but having to get myself a new car due to separation from exH.

Love my car but new beginnings and all that....not sure if anything is as good as a sportage though?

Does it have to come with a cat?

(sorry Grin)

I have a Toyota RAV4 and I love it. Prior to that I had a Lexus RX and loves that too! If they're hybrid, fuel consumption will be minimal.

My parents have a Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in and my dad absolutely swears by it.

Op I recall your other thread

I know you were struggling to find a rental and staying with your mum

Is it wise to be spending so much on a car? If just you and a toddler why not get yourself a run around?

Magnited · 11/01/2022 15:59

Are you going EV, hybrid or sticking to a Catalytic converter?

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 11/01/2022 16:01

Jaguar, Puma or Tigra imo… 🤣 (Tigra is pushing it though!)

Yeah a spelling mistake...Hmm

I'm not paying for it but thank you - it's my dad who is. He wants me to have a decent car as I have long motorway journeys to travel often with dcs in tow.

You posted in AIBU with something that was not an AIBU and you made a funny typo. In the AIBU topic, jokes will be made about it.

You're in chat now so can carry on talking about cars.

Take half the money
And put the other half in to legal costs for the divorce / moving in to your own home / saving up for being a single mum

I speak from experience as a single mum

emmathedilemma · 11/01/2022 16:06

Brand new, second hand, cash purchase, PCP, petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric, any specific requirements??

indiesearcher · 11/01/2022 16:10

We have a Honda CRV which is fab, biggest boot by a mile of any of the SUVs around. It's been very reliable and is nice to drive. I'm only looking to upgrade mine because I want the hybrid model now.

Thanks but this is a gift from my dad as mentioned above

I'm looking at a Suzuki Ignis for the same reason as you - you could get top of the range for your budget.

No it's for a car! My dad is aware of my situation but this is purely for a car as like I said, I have to do long journeys on a motorway frequently and he is very generously paying for it.

Was only here for the typo fun, but see PP have beaten me to it.

However ... second @Whatayear81's suggestion of asking dad if you can split the budget, keeping some in reserve & some for housing costs.
You could still get a very decent vehicle for 8 or 9 grand.

Thanks but I already have that saved. I am financially fine for all of that.

This is completely off topic - financially I am fine. In my marriage, we had a good amount of savings - over 20k that has been equally split.

The value of my current car will also be split so likely to add another 5k on that which is to go towards housing costs/divorce

I had a Honda CR-V decent car but the basic version I had was underpowered.

I preferred the Hyundai Santa Fe I had after that.

Where in the op did she state she was being given a cash gift for whatever she wanted and wanted advice on how to spend it?
Whatayear81 · 11/01/2022 16:28

Oh Op
Now you’ve revealed that you’re going to walk away with barely £10k cash, I really do urge you to reconsider!

You are about to divorce - it’s expensive
You need to find somewhere to live - that’s expensive
You have a toddler

That £10k will go in blink of the eye
