What do you do with an 18 month old all day?

So I've unexpectedly had to look after a friend's baby today. It's been 11 years since I looked after a baby. We've played with all her toys, read books. She's eaten skips and chocolate Grin What now?

Going to do her lunch in a minute then take her to the play park. She's adorable, so placid. But it feels like a long time until her mum picks her up at 5........

Ooh I know what you mean! Much harder than entertaining your own. You at her home or yours?

Bemorebridget · 11/01/2022 12:36

I do long pushchair walks to pass the time!

Do what you would usually do in a day and tag her along!

If she is placid then some shopping? Trip to the library?

When’s she having a nap? Grin. Put the tv on and let her potter around with her toys. She’ll be quite happy

ParadiseLaundry · 11/01/2022 12:37

Will she nap at some point? That should kill an hour or two.

FortunesFave · 11/01/2022 12:37

See if she'll watch a bit of TV. After all that one to one playing a bit of tv is fine. Then lunch then park...if you want, you can get a load of utensils and pots and containers out and let her play with them. Kids love the contents of the kitchen cabinets at this age. No sharp obviously! But plastic tubs, spoons, wooden things. If you don't mind a mess and have a tray you can help her scoop pasta and rice into things and make shakers.

If shes pretty chill then take her playground, then supermarket for a wonder?

Have you got any pens and paper for her to practice mark making with?

Does she still nap?

Billandben444 · 11/01/2022 12:47

Sit her in her pushchair in front of large colourful cartoons on the TV with a small pot of carrot sticks or similar - she won't blab if you don't!

At my house. I don't think she naps anymore. Mum dropped off pushchair with her so long walk after playpark is a good idea.
