Mask wearing in Scotland

I have just read that Nicola Sturgeon is intending to keep mask wearing compulsory in Scotland for years to come.
I literally want to cry.

Aye, good luck with that Nippy.

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/01/10/scots-could-wear-face-masks-years-nicola-sturgeons-plan-living/

And for balance, from the Daily Record, equivalent to the Mirror:

"Yesterday, the First Minister said the country had to ask itself "what adaptations to pre-pandemic life" might be needed so the country could live with coronavirus, and hinted face masks may be used long into the future as part of this.

She said: "Sometimes when you hear people talk about learning to live with covid, what seems to be suggested is that one morning we'll wake up and not have to worry about it anymore, and not have to do anything to try to contain and control it.

"That's not what I mean when I say 'learning to live with it'. Instead, we will have to ask ourselves what adaptations to pre-pandemic life - face coverings, for example - might be required in the longer term to enable us to live with it with far fewer protective measures."

Sometimes I am just rather glad to live where I do.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 11/01/2022 09:43

I was thinking of moving. This has sealed it.

I'd always fancied returning to live in Scotland at some point - not now though, if this becomes reality.

The SNP are utterly toxic and divisive. And incompetent. I hate her and her cronies for what she is doing to my country.

WhiteXmas21 · 11/01/2022 09:46

I think it will stay longer here than most of the home nations ( with exception perhaps of Wales) as that’s how she works, but I also think it will fade in time.
Most of us are not willing to continually spend ££ on disposables and she will understand eventually that never-washed cloth masks protect no-one.

Me too.

Exactly this. Everything they touch turns to shite.

Yes.
Curriculum for 'Excellence'. The SQA. (education in general...)
The Named Person fiasco.
The complete disregard for the Supreme Court.
The policy of 'wheesht for Indy'.
The only thing they have in their favour is that they can cry: 'but Boris' so successfully (as he is also, but differently, horrendous)

I don't mind masks so not bothered if I need to wear one or not. I think it should be a choice. Most people don't wear them now anyway.

madisonbridges · 11/01/2022 14:07

I hate wearing a face mask but I do it to protect others. But the idea of wearing a mask being permanently mandated is unimaginable. And pointless. Wales never stopped wearing masks and their cases were higher than maskless England's. Maybe she thinks fines from not wearing masks will fund independence?

52andblue · 11/01/2022 14:19

I think it has been wise to retain masks until late Spring this year.
I can see the argument for folk wearing them on public transport in winter time as happens in parts of Asia to reduce SARS type viruses & flu. I think the emphasis on handwashing & personal space is good.

But legally mandated for years ?

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 11/01/2022 15:43

The rates in Scotland are higher than in England, so clearly mask wearing isn't making much difference to transmission anyway!
