What hobbies for 12 year old who loves to build?

My 12 year old is constantly building with knex, lego, mobilo and wooden building blocks. He creates quite impressive stuff- robot hands, dinosaurs etc, all through his own designs.

We would love to find a more official way to inspire his creativity. He doesn’t really have any other hobbies. Has anyone found anything for teens in this area?

you could look up engineering clubs. One of my colleagues is a member of one, there is at least one child there younger than your DS although most of the members are much older. Not sure if parental supervision is required.

Thanks I will do that. I think he would prefer others his own age there though. I try to provide him with building tools at home. He never sits and watches tv. He watches tv while building all the time. It seems a shame not to try and encourage the skill. Maybe I am over thinking

The obvious to me is model kit building, model trains or similar.. I grew up knowing how to handle glue, paint, knife and screw drivers!

There used to be something called Makers Spaces that were a loose network across the country of workshops with a kind of makers club attached.
Not sure how they're faring after two years of pandemic though, sorry.
They're a mixture of traditional and hi-tech, so joinery, soldering, welding, 3d printing etc.

Thanks I will look these up. He doesn’t like instructions. Always refuses to follow instructions and make his own designs!
