I've got fairly thick highlight hair. Sometimes when I wash it (every 2 or so days ) the water that comes off is light brown ie dirt!!! I'm conscious my hair smells now and is really dirty!!

Nope, never happened to me (sorry).

LubaLuca · 10/01/2022 21:29

That can't be dirt from your hair unless you work in a filthy environment. Are you sure it's not the hot water that's a bit discoloured?

Ohyesiam · 10/01/2022 21:32

I have thick curly hair that looks better for not washing, so I only do it once a week or so. Despite this I’ve never seen it discolour the water, so my guess is it’s something else doing it.

Do you put any curling/styling product on? Have you changed this recently?

Rosebuud · 10/01/2022 21:38

I’ve never seen this . Is it dyed or do you use a lot of product?

DerektheGoose · 10/01/2022 21:50

Nope.
I do Curly Girl and rarely use shampoo. No muck water here.

Majoritycustody · 10/01/2022 21:58

The water is never discoloured when it leaves the shower. I don't use products or hairspray. Hair blonde highlighted.

Are your sheets clean? Using clean towels? Rinsing it properly?

Queenfreak · 10/01/2022 22:35

Could it be your shampoo?
I swear handsome (I use bars) makes the water look dirty even when I know my hands are clean

Palavah · 10/01/2022 22:36

Do you smoke or work in a smokey environment?

MadeForThis · 10/01/2022 22:42

Fake tan?

SisterAgatha · 10/01/2022 22:47

Is this in the shower? It can’t be your hair, maybe fake tan or makeup?

SisterAgatha · 10/01/2022 22:47

Do you travel by tube maybe?

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 10/01/2022 23:44

Do you work in a Quarry or something? Confused

MrsPotatoHead22 · 10/01/2022 23:48

Doesn't happen to me

LynetteScavo · 11/01/2022 17:53

It used to happen to me when smoking in pubs was allowed and I lived in London. I always thought it was London pollution, but it was probably me spending too much time in pubs.

Laiste · 11/01/2022 17:59

Do you use foundation on your forehead? Do you have a fringe?

I do and i have long floppy hair. If i'm washing my hair over the bath i sometimes see a slight swirl of make up colour in the first shampoo suds as i start to rinse. I assume it's where some foundation has got into the hair closest to my face. I wash my hair every two days.

I don't notice it in the shower.

Dumblebum · 11/01/2022 18:35

Could it simply be you’re not washing it properly, so the dirt is building up?

Majoritycustody · 11/01/2022 21:54

@Queenfreak

Could it be your shampoo? I swear handsome (I use bars) makes the water look dirty even when I know my hands are clean
It happens with every shampoo. I used loreal clay shampoo and thought it might be that but it happens with other shampoos!

Do you use dry shampoo? Mine has done this when I've used dry shampoo for a couple of days

BobbieT1999 · 11/01/2022 22:04

You say you have blonde highlights...do you have any other colour in your hair? And how blonde is blonde?
I sometimes notice some colour run off I've had my hair dyed various shades.
