Self Employed Cleaners

Hi
Is there any Self employed cleaner’s out there. I have been house cleaning for around 3 years now for two clients £10 ph I keep getting asked to take on more cleans but I also have a part time employed job and do my cleaning as a hobby as this is something I enjoy (crazy right) 😂
Anyhow I’m curious as to what you charge now In the industry and is it about time I put my rates up as inflation has rocketed this past year or two. Also how would I explain to my clients in a nice way of my self pay rise?

I've been charging £13ph for years but have recently taken on two more clients and charge £15 now. I would increase my others but they all helped me through the lockdown when I couldn't work,so I feel cheeky putting theirs up.im in Northamptonshire.
Just mention with petrol rises and cost of materials, you're increasing your hourly rate.

That’s very cheap. I’m in the NE and the going rate is £15ph.

When I’m too busy to clean I have a lovely lady come to help out so it’s not a regular slot.

Never be afraid to up your prices in line with inflation, your clients will be expecting you to. You could send a brief email with an updated fee structure then mention it to them when you see them.

I’ve had two cleaners, one charged £15 and one charged £12. £10 is cheap imo.

It's fine to put your rates up. £10 per hour is on the low side. Up it to 12.

£10 ph is too low for self employed work. Come April, the NMW for employees will almost be that and that includes holiday pay, SSP as a minimum and you'd hope travel if they have to work at sites other than their main workplace.

You need to charge a minimum of about 30% extra as a self employed person entitled to non of the above.

You say you keep getting offered more work, so you just need to tell them that your rate is £13 ph from now on and it's up to them if they take your service or not.

I'm in the SE, and just had a card through my door offering regular cleaning for a minimum of 2 hours at £12.95 an hour.

Bucks/Oxfordshire border and have been doing it for 20+ years using my own materials incl steam cleaner.

I get £15 p/h from 1 family and last wk was given a pay increase to £18 p/h (The latter I have been with since the start)

I do extras such as clean inside the fridge, source items for gifts and wrap presents too though if requested.

Thank you for your replies. I will definitely look into this and maybe mention it soon And say will start it come April. I clean/house keep in Cheshire so I've seen going rates up there are like 16ph I just don't to go greedy and loose my clients but inflation is really going up. Hopefully they would understand like anyone else.

Do you charge them all the same now, or just kept your new clients at £15ph

£10 ph is very very cheap, if you up your price and they like you they'll keep you, I doubt they'd find anyone else at £10.
