If you could ban anything, what would you ban?

As above.
This is one of my favourite topics of conversation. It can be anything you like, no rules, but ideally small, petty, and lighthearted. It usually is things that aren't already illegal, but it can be, as not all laws get followed. It can be anything you want!
Lighthearted, if possible!
My list includes but is not limited to,
fireworks
glitter
people spitting
children running at pigeons
balloons
daylight savings time
loud cars and motorbikes
my vacuum running out of battery
having a cold nose.
Please, tell me yours!

When I am Queen (ha ha) the following will be banned:

Parking on pavements
Fireworks, except for sparklers and quiet fireworks, and for public displays
Garden bonfires
Driving SUVs that are not hybrid or electric and in any event only to be driven by people living in rural postcodes
Second homes - if not sold must be rented out for full time residential use, not holidays
The introduction of dog-friendly exercise areas so that they can be kept there, and away from me!

Female sport to be kept for female-bodied people
Clocks to go forward at the end of Feb, not March
Remove ticket barriers from railway stations and allow people to buy tickets on trains if they are running late/there is a long queue at the ticket office

Owning just one guinea pig (they need a buddy

Oh I feel so bad about this now. We had a guinea pig when I was about 10 and he was on his own. We did spend a lot of time with him but we didn't know it was bad to have them on their own. That said he lived until he was 5 which isn't a bad age for a piggy (though his mum lived to be about 8).

And then we got another one and it lived with a rabbit - also a bad thing to do.

We were crap guinea pig parents :(

@HeyUpits2022

I will ban unsolicited phone calls. No. I don't want to take a five minute survey thanks, just bugger off.
Yes I forgot this - and cold calling at the door. We live in a no cold calling zone but we may as well not do. That said, covid has put a stop to most of it.

@BonnesVacances

Perfume Angry

It's so pervasive and obtrusive, it gets into my space. I'm allergic to the smell of it and it gives me such a headache and makes me want to vomit. If I'm in a restaurant or cafe and the person nearby is wearing it, I physically can't eat and have to leave. It's so unacceptable to invade someone's airspace like that. I can't understand why some smells are considered unacceptable like smoke or BO and others aren't. Confused

And then we wouldn't have to have the ads either. I'll add it to my list Grin

People on mumsnet wanting to ban the internet and social media 🤔

Lupinhere37 · 15/01/2022 21:51

Why has nobody said mosquitoes, Linkedin or sunburn?

upinaballoon · 15/01/2022 21:57

Outside lights on buildings except ones which shed light downwards only, have shades which don't let any light upwards or sideways, and come on for no longer than 5 minutes at a time.

I agree. The people opposite to us have put up security lights that would light up a football pitch. They shone directly into our front room until I went over and asked them to dim them. They have dipped the angle a bit but they are still too f’king bright.

The LinkedIn function that gives it away when you've been snooping at a profile

I would also like to ban 'accept cookies' pop ups on every web page.

lljkk · 16/01/2022 09:17

Mosquitos are important pollinators for many plants, mosquitos mostly forage on flowers for nutrition. Also important food source for many larger species.

We had a bonfire in the garden last night, so...

Lupinhere37 · 16/01/2022 09:28

@lljkk ok…..I’ll allow the mosquitos to stay but I’ll ban their bites. I’ll extend that to horseflies too.

Alphavilla · 16/01/2022 09:39

Packaging
Bottled soft drinks
Bottled water
Fast food outlets
Takeaway coffee
All the plastic shit that ends up in the hedges and verges in my village and in the sea
Litter louts

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 16/01/2022 09:55

Gambling ads on the tv. Hate them.

CarlatheJackal · 16/01/2022 09:56

AndItDoesntSeemToMatter · 16/01/2022 10:02

Dogs. Fucking hate them

shadypines · 16/01/2022 10:56

@BasiliskStare Grin just give the woman some decent lines!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 16/01/2022 17:06

I've thought of another one - shops having lights on when they are closed (ditto offices etc). Ok to have a security light or Christmas lights but other than that TURN THEM OFF.

Shapiro · 16/01/2022 17:27

Adele, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Katie Perry and most other modern day makers of songs. All dire and perpetuating the tragic decline in talent of music in recent years.

bluejelly · 16/01/2022 17:31

Motorbikes. Chewing gum. Single use plastic (apart from medical settings.)

Shapiro · 16/01/2022 17:32

Lip fillers.

Spitspotsput · 16/01/2022 17:44

Governments killing animals while testing out mass killing methods, then burying them, making the land permanently contaminated. saying enough time has passed is not good enough, the ordnance survey still has a nuclear sign on the spot

BasiliskStare · 16/01/2022 17:45

Any story or scene in a film - when it ends up being "and it was just a dream "

Car adverts where a basic hatchback looks like it gets you to the most beautiful places on earth with a laughing and gorgeous family . It's a small car - probably used not in the most glamorous places on earth .

caringcarer · 16/01/2022 20:36

Smoking
Dog being walked by owners with no poo bags
Egg sandwiches
Bankers bonuses
Transmen taking part in female sports. There should be trans races.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 16/01/2022 20:38

Not banning, but requiring newspapers to give as much column inches to womens sport as they do mens (for the avoidance of doubt, that's women based on sex not gender so you don't get round it by featuring Rachel McKinna and Laurel Hubbard et al).

Each weekend you get half a page, one page at most devoted to womens sport and the rest (23 or 15 pages) to mens.
