Why was my parcel returned to me?

Send a box of presents to a friend which should have arrived in time for Christmas. It didn’t show up and today it arrived back to me and I’m baffled why.

The presents were packed into a cardboard box which I sealed with parcel tape. My friend’s name and address were clearly written in black sharpie in large writing on a white bit of paper which I sellotaped to the box. I had written from our address in small writing on the side.

The box arrived back a bit battered but with their name and address still clearly legible. Someone had written and scored out friends name on the side of the box and written it again on another side of the box. It had a returns label taped to it with no reason given.

Friend says there was no missed parcel slip through her door. It was sent Royal Mail (not signed for or tracked). I have triple checked the address is correct.

I’m just relieved that the presents haven’t gone missing but I’m a little bored tonight so have shared my mild curiosity with MN in the hopes someone can give me a reason and prevent this happening again when I re-send it.

Postie ran out of slips so took it back to depot -expecting it to be redelivered-but as it wasn’t collected it was returned to sender.

If a parcel isn't collected from the depot after a set time it is returned to the sender.

Vapeyvapevape · 10/01/2022 19:27

Could the postie have put the slip through the wrong door ?

I had a parcel returned to me because the machine had read the return address by mistake.

Havilland · 10/01/2022 19:29

Ignore my comment! ^^

Yes, most likely card not put through door.

Yep busy Christmas period ran out of slips / put through wrong door or possibly friend never saw slip put through door .
My dd picked the sorry your not in slip up once and put it down then it fell behind something and it was several days before I found out then it had been sent back .

There was a huge reshuffle in some of the southern sorting offices before Christmas which according to my postie caused anything that wasn't 'signed for' to be shoved into cages to be dealt with later.

So if you're down south, that could be why.

I was told the Christmas presents I sent abroad were lost, they were returned to me in April!

Crayzeefrog · 10/01/2022 23:10
