Sainsbury’s online shop?

I don’t usually order from Sainsbury’s but I noticed they now do same day slots so it seemed like a good idea but just checked my receipt and half my order wasn’t available? 13 subs and 4 unavailable items, am I right in thinking that Sainsbury’s charge you extra for the subs unlike Tesco? Where you don’t pay the extra for the sub? As all the subs are considerably more money? Also I heard they don’t refund you the money if you send them back you only get vouchers to use again on their website? (Unlikely to want to use them again 😫) but the weirdest one is I bought one 6 pack of skips crips and they’ve subbed it for FOUR packs of quavers costing over £6?! Why would they do that 😕 anyone else had trouble with Sainsbury’s?

I stopped using Sainsburys’s delivery way back. Their substitutions were ludicrous (bananas instead of limes, soy sauce instead of mayo, frozen chips instead of ice cubes!!) and twice they came several hours early without asking me and dropped off a load of ice I needed for an office party that evening with reception at 11am! (Slot booked was 5-6). We didn’t have a freezer so it all melted and I had to rush round finding more for that evening. Never again!!

Oh my gosh that’s awful!! It makes no sense.

I mean the substitutions make no sense!

(You make perfect sense, Flis!)

Sainsbury's online service is terrible. We were constantly getting very short dated food - things that would be going out of date the day it was delivered! When you try to complain they just fob you off.

We moved to using morrisons and they are much better.

MrsAntonioConte · 11/01/2022 12:30

When we lived in London we used Ocado (Waitrose I think) and they would give me random Prosecco and bunches of flowers. I miss those days…

I wish we had a Morrisons nearby!

What do you mean by you overpaid £30 for stuff that wasn't in stock? confused
Because I'd already paid for the stuff that wasn't in stock. As I said, I didn't ask for (or get) substitutions. Still confused? Didn't want an online voucher, wanted the money back on my debit card.

But you're only charged for what the person in the shop actually checks out in your trolley, so this can't have happened. If it wasn't in stock and you'd selected not to substitute, it wouldn't (or shouldn't) have been charged as there wouldn't have been a product to put through the checkout. Your card isn't charged when you place the order, it's only an estimate until it's been picked in the store.

How many bags of quavers did you get?? 😂
Sorry for your misfortune OP, but your disbelief at the crisp situation is really making me laugh over here.

P.S. Quavers are much better crisps anyway 😉

tattychicken · 11/01/2022 21:35

@ThePug is right, you don't get charged for items that aren't available. The total when you check out is an estimate, the final cost isn't deducted from your card until the morning of the delivery when they know what actual items have been picked.
The Quaver thing is a cock up by Sainsbury's but you would have benefited from it, having all those Quavers for the same price as one pack of Skips. Bloody hate Quavers though.

RedCandyApple · 12/01/2022 00:10

The crisps weren’t for me I don’t like skips or quavers tbh 😱 I just really don’t the logic, someone orders 1 thing, not available so send them 4! I’m sorry that really makes no sense to me. I wouldn’t have benefited as I won’t be using them again, I usually shop at Tesco’s I’ve just been unable to get a slot with them so wouldn’t want vouchers I’m not planning to use, their deliveries are also quite expensive (paid £6.50) shame the subs don’t stay the same price like Tesco’s
