Do you need a passport to fly from London to Edinburgh?

I know it's a silly question as it's still within the UK, but I've never flown before and don't have a passport so not sure if you can get through security etc without a passport?

Anyone done this?

I've flown Edinburgh to London (and back again) before without needing to show a passport. That was a couple of years ago now.

No you don't but you do need photo ID. I used my driving licence.

You don’t need a passport, but you do need photo ID - which could be your passport or drivers licence.

I think you can use a Driving Licence.

Soontobe60 · 09/01/2022 19:31

Only if you’re going via Hong Kong!

Photo ID is usually sufficient, but I believe Ryanair require a valid passport as a condition of carriage even for flights within the UK, so possibly others may also - I’d check with the airline.

Actually, thinking about it, that may only be for flights to NI and therefore about the Irish border etc.

I've done this. I've also done a trip to Ireland with just a driving licence and had no trouble (though that was before the brexit+1yr final final brexit so maybe it's less easy now)

No you can use a drivers license, my Nan also flys on her bus pass!

No, it’s not a silly question. Many years ago I worked in the reservations office for an airline which operated a large number of U.K. domestic routes, and I got asked a dozen times a week if a passport was required to fly to Belfast.
You definitely don’t need a passport to fly to anywhere in the U.K. or Ireland. You do need photo ID. I use my driving license for domestic flights.

Dd flew there and back recently and showed only a boarding pass. They did random id checks at the gate though.
